Questions about Canada.
    #2414410 - 03/10/04 09:57 AM (20 years, 22 days ago)

What does it take to live there? Do you need a green card or something of the sorts? Is it an expensive country, what are the basic downsides of living there? I've been thinking alot about where to move in the future and just now it hit me... Canada!

This isn't the right forum for this -- try Politics, Activism and the Law.
(not being harsh -- people will prolly have more info there)

If that's Canadian....put it through the money converter....probably not too much more expensive than packs here. As a Canadian, you definately should not complain about tobacco, you guys get the best tobacco next to the Euros.

And guess where that tobacco comes from? That's right, the US! We make more money selling the better tobacco to Europe and Canada, as they have more "refined" tastes in nicotine uptake.

Canada is great, and if youre considering moving here i suggest heading for the west coast. its extremely beautiful and there is always something happening everywhere you go. in fact, entertainment seems to be the most prominent aspect of their society. people are very friendly, and health and nature are respected highly. healthfood and fitness are EVERYWHERE and pollution is not tolerated (lots of electric cars). unfortunately living seems to be very expensive, but its definitely worth it. and take my word for it, pot is basically legal. i WILL move there sometime in the near future.

unfortunately i dont know anything about moving here, since i was convieniently born in the country. however, we seem to be quite laid back so im sure arranging a move here wont be very difficult.

In comparison to Norway I don't think any country is expensive, FilthySocks!

well not really. we pay less taxes when we get a paycheck and pay more taxes on everything that we buy and we also make more money in avarage so it evens out more or less. canada is expencive, not so very far from norway

Norway is at least 2x as expensive for anything you wanted to buy as Canada is. Or at least it was last time I was in Norway (about 6 years ago).

yeah of course if you come into norway as tourist, but an avarage paycheck is bigger than one in canada

I guess that's true... but from what Canadian friends have been telling me, the Canadian health care system might be in danger of being screwed and outta money... so at least Norway's got that going.

Norway is fucking expensive and I havent gotten a real paycheck yet so I wouldnt know about that... but Norway IS one of the most expensive countries compared to the paycheck aswell, I dont think there could be such a big differance between canada and Norway but I think Norway could be a bit more expensive generally.  What places are good to live in Canada?  The west coast, as toofew said, sounds neat, is that where BC is?

Signo, wherever there are Newports I am going, I love those cigarettes.  I like Marlboro's and Lucky's too, and I'm pretty sure they have those in canoooodia

I'm always getting a good impression of your country and especially when I watched Bowling for colombine, I so hope CA doesnt turn out like USA one day... with the crime and all.  Its curious though, two neighbouring countries so differant, oh well.

Are you american? Is your Mom or Dad Canadian? Both of these things are important to know before giving advice.
If your Mom or Dad is Canadian, you can have dual citizenship and stay as long as you want as well as apply for our Social Security #...called a Social Insurance Number because of the free healthcare among other things.

This is a good country. Higher taxes but more social services. Number one being public healthcare.

Canada is the #1 country among the G8 countries (USA, Japan, Germany etc) in Education! Im not joking, look it up!

Vancouver, a city on the west coast of British Columbia was recently rated number 3 in global survey reflecting quality of life! #1 and 2 being Zurich and Geneva I think in Switzerland ...Zurich for sure...

Were laid back too when it comes to gay marriage, drug laws, and a whole whack of other things. The states doesnt really like us right now because were so liberal and they think were perfect for terrorists to hang out, and we are but I like the freedom we have.  We have more freedome than the states, thats for sure!!

I have to agree with toofew, western Canada is the best. I was born in Vancouver and have lived all my life in British Columbia.
If you like to surf, ski, snowboard, hike, kayak, mountainclimb, go camping, scuba diving, boating, fishing... almost anything you can think of, we have it here.
The weather is mild, although we do get alot of rain over fall/winter/spring, but that is what gives us the awesome pacific rainforests. There are lots of great laid back people that like to party, and like it was mentioned before the law goes pretty easy on pot smokers. Although don't get caught with a large grow-op as they are coming down hard on that. We even have lots of local wild shroomies that come up in the fall that are very potent.
I love it here and could live no where else. I hope you visit sometime and get to see how beautiful it is
