*this is not christian bashing, merely an observation i notice since i live in the USA and it is the main religion*

why do many christians believe in the death-penelty, even though the sixth commandment say no killing? capital punishment is a republican, and the majority of christians are republican.

this would go against the first law that god gave man. many have said that the bible also says, "an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth" but im not sure the context of that...or if that is something god is the judge ove, not man. or is it speaking of natural consequence(karma)?

Murder is trivial.  Christianity deals with core issues like drug use, homosexuality, and having long hair.

Hmm... you must've never been on the frontlines of a battle between the Pro- and Anti-Death Penalty Christians. It's a weird sight.

But, yeah... the whole "eye for an eye" thing doesn't mesh well with the Thou Shalt Not Kill commandment.

i am not a christian, but i might be able to speak on this since i have read the bible a few times. there is actually no commandment that says thou shalt not kill. it says, thou shalt not do murder. if you keep reading Exodus past the commandments, it says that taking a life is ok if that person has malliciously taken anothers life.

Actually, it's "thou shalt not MURDER." Basically what automan said. I myself do not believe in the death penalty, more for the fact that it is severly inefficient.

Well, for the same reason that "PRO-LIFERS" bomb abortion clinics and kill doctors.... For the same reason that inocent people were burned, drowned and crushed alive during the witch hunt. Christianity has always been a religion that used killing and murder in the name of God. God supported war and supported the stoning of people who broke his laws. So much blood has been spilled in the name of god.
