You guys all have great taste in music!
personally, this is what I listen to when I trip:
Squarepusher - Will tweak you the fuck out. It's crazy as fuck sort of DJ-esque music.. I don't know how to explain it. It's very crazy, and very trippy.
Radiohead - Kid A; OK Computer; Amnesiac; Hail to the Thief (in that order, OK Computer has some insane effects that induce nice feelings and visuals for me)
Talking Heads - Speaking In Tongues; Remain In Light
Phish - Anything live really, I prefer the songs You Enjoy Myself, David Bowie, Down With Disease, First Tube, Stash, Funky Bitch (which might be a cover?), Divided Sky, Mike's Song... tons more. Trey will make you trip the fuck out!
Sigur Ros - ( ) is a great album.. so much emotion pours out of that album, it really delivers the great.. I can't say enough about this one. make sure you have good bass to deliver the nice swells in the notes and stuff especially on the second song. bass is incredible.
Pink Floyd is a MUST, as greenhaze said. "Echoes" is my favorite song EVER to trip to. Meddle is a good album, as is Animals, DSOTM, and The Wall. Wish You Were Here is great, too.. Saucerful of Secrets is oldschool but still great.. "Careful With That Axe, Eugene" and "Set the Controls For the Heart of the Sun" is bad ass. Ummagumma's very trippy with that song "Several Small Species of Furry Creatures.. etc".
Geogaddi or Music Has the Right TO Children are both bad ass albums by Boards of Canada.
Keller Williams is awesome to trip to.. "Stupid Questions" (acoustic or regular version w/String Cheese) is a great song.
Godspeed You Black Emperor! is great to trip to, also.. Lift Yr Skinny Fists Like Antennas or whatever is a great album for tripping.. so is F# A# (Infinity) and Yanqui UXO
Modest Mouse is fun to trip to.. my favorite album is Lonesome Crowded West, but The Moon & Antarctica is great, so is The Fruit That Ate Itself, Everywhere And His Nasty Parlour Tricks, and This Is A Long Drive For Someone With Nothing To Think About.
hmm.. some more brief suggestions. The Cure - Disintegration The Beatles - Abbey Road, White Album, Sgt. Pepper's, Magical Mystery Tour, Revolver Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots RX Bandits - Progress Tool - Lateralus, Aenima, Undertow, (disgustipated is a kickass "song") Paul Oakenfold anything Moby - Play Mogwai - Rock Action or Come On Die Young DEPECHE MODE - VIOLATOR

I would have to agree to pink floyed, that i love. But i think the best song to trip on would be not touch the earth by The Doors. You will litterly shit your pants when you hear this song. The frist time i've heard this song i was stoned off my ass with bomb ass chronic and honey oil and rollin on two red ferraris, i was soo out of my mind.

my most memorable musical trip expirience was sitting in a dark (practically pitch black) room with a couple of friends and listening to helter skelter by the beatles....wow.. that aside, music is nessessary when tripping.

Nice picks Strumpling!!
Well, I won't do songs, but I'll list bands/artists. Here goes.
Shpongle Ozric Tentacles Shulman Entheogenic Future Sound of London Carbon Based Lifeforms Ooze Celtic Cross Mystery of the Yeti Ott Hallucinogen Infected Mushroom Banco de Gaia Govinda Bluetech (my new current favorite) Solar Fields The Orb (I can't believe I have them listed this far down ) Younger Brother Tool Mars Volta Opeth (use sparingly)
That's it for off the top of my head.

The first time I tried Terence Mckenna's '5 dried grams in the dark', which for me included a peganum harmala booster, John Coltrane's Ascension happened to be sitting in my disc changer. All hell broke lose when its started playing. It was too dense for me to listen to sober - often atonal, abrasive, discordant, bizare - not much to hold on to. But on mushrooms it took on large cosmic dimensions and strange familiarity. The song has a language of its own

good stuff but to be honest for me nothing compares to drums and/or guitars in person with someone who is fairly good at playing them. jsut being there right in front of them makes me mind do fizzy flaps.
