Hunger or Habit?
    #2320157 - 02/10/04 12:00 AM (20 years, 1 month ago)

It has been said that oftentimes we eat not out of actual hunger, but out of habit or routine.

Do you guys eat on a schedule regardless of whether you're hungry, or do you eat only when you really feel hungry?

Im on a plan where I eat small meals about every 3 hours, regardless of whether I'm hungry or not. This helps me keep my hunger under control throughout the day so I dont get overly hungry later on and over-eat. I am on a strict diet plan.

....But eating is sooooo goood. Sometimes I'll go on a binge and order 3 bigmacs and make a 6 patty burger. ohh man.

By the way, why is this posted in S&P?

I'd say 90% of the time, I eat out of hunger. 10% out of boredom or habit.

I think a lot of people eat out of boredom,or depression,or the muchies.I eat when I'm hungry usually, but I'm a victim of boredom hunger as well. but if youre on a strict diet plan, when you start to feel hungry, exercise. Do some crunches, some push-ups,leg lifts and then when you're done, you'll probably actually BE hungry and not feel guilty about eating. pickles are negetive calories by the way, and I heard that lemon juice speeds up your metabolism,i have no idea if its true or not, i always drink water with lemon, but i have an outrageously high metabolism anyways..

You forgot one: Eat because you're supposed to!

When I was younger, about 21, I had just left my first ex. I weighed about 115 pounds. I got a job in a restaurant, and I started eating, A LOT.

75 pounds later, I decided I should go on a diet. I tried all kinds of diets. But the way those diets were structured, once you went off the diet, the bad eating habits came back and the weight followed.

I finally found weight watchers, which dictated that you should eat 3 meals a day, and small snacks in between meals. It was basically a "behavior modification" program.

It worked for me, and I still follow it, 25 years later.

Eat 3 meals, hungry or not.
