According to one manufacturer (Extenz), they have sold 250,000,000 capsules. As there are 3 or 4 competitors that number might be approaching 500,000,000 capsules of penile extending herbal formula sold.
Of course listening to a skeptic investigator would have told these gullible souls that the male anatomy is pre-determined by genetics and can only be altered surgically. Certain supplements might make one "hornier", but never larger. So how do they do it?
1. Propose a solution to an imaginary "problem".
2. Offer a money-back guarantee. This has 3 built-in protections:
a. If you cannot get your money back, will you incur thousands of dollars in legal fees for $60 (or whatever the going price is)?
b. Placebo effect: maybe you noticed a slight increase because you hoped for it.
c. You are too lazy to try to get your money back - not worth the effort.
3. Many anecdotal stories about how it worked for "others" that keep you hoping.
What does this have to do with S&P? It has to do with belief and anecdotal evidence. The scientific evidence is nil yet the general populace keeps buying.

I think fear has a lot to do with marketing. I see how this is related to S&P in the sense that people will believe what they want to believe. I guess the only truth is personal truth. I guess the money back guarentee would be that even if ya don't believe in Christ or whomever as long as you fake it you've got your golden ticket to heaven so you got nothing to lose. As Well of course all the spiritual gurus would be the "others" that "it" has worked for and we take testimonials from. As far as providing a solution to some sort of problem I'd say enlightenment, peace of mind or enternal happiness is a pretty big carrot to dangle in front of us.
