Why do you tip servers more than delivery drivers?

Really, why? Servers are on their feet a lot at busy restaurants and have to put up with customer bs often, as well as possibly tip bussers/runners, but they absolutely do not deserve to make more money than delivery drivers. While servers are in their cushy warm restaurant, drivers are out there dealing with all weather conditions. Petrol costs money. Tires and brakes cost money. Cars break. People crash. Drivers have a very high risk ov being robbed. And when a driver is in the store (s)he often has other duties to do which can exceed the workload ov servers, especially at pig3 stores. Drivers come to you while you have to use your petrol to go to a server.
A driver does more and risks far more to satisfy a customer, so why is it standard to tip them less? Drivers generally get more base pay(still low) but that does'nt matter to you when it's tipped wage labor, especially when the food costs that you're being charged are greater at eat-in restaurants. It makes absolutely no sense.
Yes, one ov my jobs is as a driver. I spend thousands ov dollars a year on my delivery car to ensure food gets to peoples' doors. The car i've delivered in since 5/12 was t-boned last summer in the driver door while delivering. And that was 2 months after having $796 in repairs. The car i replaced it with($1200) lasted about 3 weeks before head gasket failure led me to get rid ov it. But even before that, i put $450 in repairs into it. I bought another car for $2000 which i still have. I've put about $550 in repairs into that so far, not including a $330 towing and storage fee after being towed away less than 12 hours after breaking down.
In the downtime the delivery cars were broken, i was running one ov my jags. That did pretty well, only developing a coolant reservoir crack and a whine that i believe is the propshaft bearing, but it's not very fuel efficient and i run 91 or 92 octane in that. And i had to put up with all the snide comments ov people when they saw me delivering in a jaguar; one that cost less to purchase than the hyundai that was t-boned, mind. It's as if they feel that a driver does'nt deserve to make money for risking their life and sacrificing their vehicle to bring them food. And yet they'll go out to eat and give a server far more for taking notes on a pad and shuffling about on the cushy indoor floor a bit.
TIP DRIVERS WELL.

Because my interaction with you is very limited.
I typically tip ~15% (more like $2/delivery).

$5 tip for delivery is my minimum.
I have delivered in the past and it's an incredibly easy job... much easier than being a server but it does require more expenses.
How I don't miss that job.

So words and face time are more valuable to you than actual service? Drivers offer far more service to customers than servers.
Tips should be $3 or 15%, whichever is more. It should be more in accordance with the point ov my thread, but this is the currently accepted unwritten standard.

Stop writing OV instead of OF. Its annoying and not clever at all. It makes your posts hard to read through. You'll be a delivery driver your whole life if your employer thinks you can't spell OF.
I tip drivers and waiters about the same amount. I guess I might give waiter a little more. The drivers only drive 2 miles and they don't really have a lot of responsibilities compared to waiters.

BTW, i have worked FOH in several restaurants, so i do know what it means to be a server too. Drivers deserve more.
Off to go deliver for 11 hours. Although i feel that customers should give me more money, keep in mind that i do actually like this job. I'm proud to be a driver.

Do'nt tell me what to do. I want to be a driver my whole life.
I fully encourage those who take issue with my spelling, apostrophe placement, and writing style in general to place me on ignore. I do'nt need the audience ov ignore-ants.

whenever i tip, i tip as well as i can. i delivered food all through high school and have taken a couple of delivery gigs as an adult to pay down some bills. i don't have a problem with tipping, but i think putting employees' livelihoods entirely in the hands of customers is wrong. base wages should help cover the costs of working e.g. gas, vehicle maintenance etc.
but wages are stagnant across the board. it's just most visible in base level and service oriented fields. if businesses don't stop cutting corners on their labor we're going to be in a lot of trouble. low wages weakens the economy, unduly burdens welfare programs, destroys the middle class and sews the seeds for civil unrest. i hear all this talk about productivity and flooded job markets and it's all bullshit. businesses are doing better than ever, and they're doing so at a very high human cost.

Why would you want to be a delivery driver your whole life? Because you can smoke weed and stuff? You're even saying now that you don't get tipped enough. Eventually your body will get old and tired and you won't be able to pay for health care and you'll be sick of having room mates. Especially if you knock someone up. You could get paid 3 times more for driving a truck and it is basically the same job.
Your posts are pretty good quality so I don't want to ignore you. Using "Ov" justs makes your posts difficult to read and there is no reason to use "Ov".

Delivery drivers rock! They bring us food at all hours of the night so we don't have to venture out into a scary world. We always tip them well and even invite them to smoke with us, mad props to the drivers!

If that's how you want to take it, sure.
I'm not giving you $3 to bring a sandwich a mile down the road, just as I don't expect someone to tip me $3 for pouring them a beer,

Because I interact with my servers more, and they make me want to tip them more.

hahahaha... so will you be coming to pick the pizza up and ensure it is recooked correctly before you drive it back out to my house when my order is wrong, will you be delivering refills on my drink

the written standard is that delivery drivers make at least minimum wage, their job is to deliver product to a customer within a limited distance, that product should be as described, not shaped like a cock, not shoved all to one side of the package, and certainly not with a hole in the bottom where you shoved your cock through it like some Chav that uses 'ov' instead of 'of'
delivery drivers not only earn a bare minimum of minimum wage, they also typically receive a fuel allowance and other benefits for the absolute most basic of services, putting something in my hands, taking my money and walking away to smoke your weed on the road and posing a danger to others with your carelessness. thank you for changing the way I see delivery drivers, from now on I will ensure that I am properly served BEFORE I consider tipping them, remember to always bring paper plates and cups and plastic ware, your tip is now dependent on the level of service I recieve, if I have to wash dishes then you're getting dick
almost forgot. wear proper shoes, leave the trainers at hom and for god's sake, pull your pants up

I agree that delivery people don't get much respect when I comes to tips. I notice that the first thing people say when their food hadn't arrived in a timely fashion is they will punish the driver. It's probably not his fault but if he's extra busy, he risks getting fewer tips than a normal night.
op what do you deliver?
