I can't seem to figure ot that these are. I don't think they are psilocybin containing, but just curious because there's tons of them in a forest near my campus. This is near houston tx.

Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it.
If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.

Concretefeet said it all...

Also, your specimens look kinda dried out. This makes identification a lot more difficult. If you want something identified, please read the stickies of this forum. Don't forget the one about photography.

I did read the FAQ, and I don't get a sporeprint off of them, because they were dried out from the warm sun that day I'd assume and had been opened for an indetermnable number of days.

Also what's wrong with the photography? That was about as clear and detailed picture as I can get on a 1.3 megapixel camera.

As far as one part of the faq, I glanced over.

a. Habitat (where and what does it grow on)
In a wooded area in dank soil by a tree (oak or pine)

b. Characteristics of the gills (color, attached/not, gills/pores, etc)
Gills are a slightly lighter brown than the stem. Picture 3 I think it is sows it better than I can describe

c. Measurements of cap and stem.
Stem - 2 inches, Cap - 3/4 diameter

d. Characteristics of the stem (color, texture, hollow/solid, thin/thick, etc)
Chocolate brown, smooth texture, solid and sinuous inside (lots of strands like a pot stem sort of), thin, less than 1 cm diameter.

e. Characteristics of the cap (color, texture, concical/spherical, convex/concave, etc)
tan cap with a chocolate brown spot in the center, convex, more spherical. When first picked the cap was almost a disk. Cap was flat and thin, with only a slight convex to it.

f. Spore print color (very important!)
I'll try with another one to get a print but the one I had didn't leave one when I tried last night. I mean after a certain point wouldn't they be pretty empty of spores?

g. Color that the mushroom briuses
None. If it's bruising than it's a deep brown which the mushroom is anyways

h. Scent of mushroom
Little scent. A normal funus scent. Mostly earthen. Nothing spectacular to report on that account

My first thought is Laccaria. Laccarias are remarkably durable mushrooms. The individual mushrooms survive so well that some professionals refer to them as mushroom weeds.

Happy mushrooming!

The lighting. The focus. Start by shooting pics in daylight as artificial light screws up the colours. Also, most cams tend to autofocus better in poor lighting conditions.

Of course, it all depends on what type of camera it is...but I'm convinced even your cam can do better. Really, go out when it's still light and make the pics. It makes a difference.
