I'm not here to debunk your statement, but would kindly elborate your point. I am really interested in what you have to say regarding this.

Annnnnnd I had a light saber and my friend was there and I said "you look like an indian" and he said "you look like satan" and he found a stick and a rock and he named the rock ooga booga and he named the stick Stick and we both thought that was pretty funny. We got eaten alive by mosquitos but didn't notice til the next day. I stepped on some glass while wading in the swamp and cut my foot open, didn't bother me til the next day either....yeah it was a good time, ended the night by buying some liquor for minors and drinking nips and going to he diner and eating chicken fingers, and then I went home and went to bed.

I'm guessing your arguement stems from the fact that for all intents and purposes, viruses are not classified as living. Am I getting warm?

Maybe I'm missing something, but I've got no idea how this means they have conciousness.

i was interested the first time with your "does conciousness take up space" thing, but now i think hes just screwing around
visuses display the characteristics of life, but not what you would call conciousness

I'm missing something too. Something big....something REAL big.

hehe "how are you doing today?"

Thats thinking on the same plane as I am. I remember reading in a biology book that organelles used to be independent and over time evolved into a symbiotic relationship with the host that it became an organell. i dont know what im trying to get at really, just trippn hard.

Viruses never actually act, or move, on their own. Think of them like, say, a hunk of metal that floats around. Eventually it'll float into the cogs of a giant machine, and gum up the works, and more hunks of metal will float out.

thats exactly what im trying to get at. I think we would all admit that they are a little more complex than an inanimate object like a chunk of metal. but they seem to have a will to reproduce like they have a consciousness a will to survive. dna has a will.

Seems to me that the ability to reproduce is a better definition of life. If you can imagine a life-like substance, which isn't based on DNA, reproduction seems to catch the essence of "life".

DNA can reproduce given certain enviromental conditions. Viruses can reproduce given certain enviromental conditions (which just happens to be the presence of DNA replicating vehicles).

Of course, for the creationist "life" is a much more loaded word than it is for the evolutionist.

You ppl act as if a "chunk of metal" is not alive. Everything is alive. Either that or nothing is alive. Scientist have this way of making rules for everything, even life. According to science, Jackasses are not concidered alive because they cannot reproduce.

Everything has its story arc. humans are concieved and grow and fuck and eat and die. chunks of metal dont fuck or eat, but they were concieved, they can be added to or destroyed.

As part of the collective unconcious, chunks of metal are just doing what was predestined for them to do at the dawn of time. they know what they must: the rules of physics and chemestry guide their actions and lead them through their lives.

Its a crying shame that I don't have the connection to infinity that rock has.

That's poetic, but not really helpful for biology.

Jackasses are considered sterile because they cannot reproduce, but I think you'd have a hell of a time findind a scientist who'd say that they weren't alive.
