Someone already posted this in TDUB, so I figured I'd post it here.
This album inspired me to become a musician:

In no particular order... Rush - Hemispheres Listened to it for the first time on a daytime alone acid trip. The first song Cygnus X-1 struck me so deeply on many levels and gave me profound visions and insights. The rest of the album was pure bliss. It changed me. Nevermore - Dreaming Neon Black Also a lone daytime lsd trip. I was in my room with the windows blacked out, laying in my bed and staring at the ceiling.. listening to this album on repeat for well over 6 hours. Over and over and over, the music had me in a trance, and the uniqueness of the vocals is still burned into my head. I was in tears several times during the event, as I dug through my subconscious and eventually blast out into space. Beyond words.. but definately changed my life. Opeth - Orchid Altered my perception of music and showed me a new way of metal. The first Opeth album I ever heard and it inspired me in many, many ways. Beautiful and epic. Master of fucking puppets The first album that inspired me to become a musician. Listened to it so many times, I went through 2 tapes and 3 cds. Yep..

Tool ~ Aenima
__________________
Same here.
The first time I heard it, I was jammed with 5 other people in a car. Everyone was talking and I was annoyed because I was so entranced with this music. I immediately felt the power of Tool, and from that point on, I was addicted.
Others-
A Perfect Circle: Mer De Nomes- It felt like an opiate-like drug to my brain when I listened to it. It still does, but maybe not as much.
Prodigy: The fat of the land- My introduction to techno, and there isn't a bad track on the cd. It sounded so cool and I wondered what instraments made those sounds.
Juno Reactor: Bible of Dreams & Shango- I purchased these cds at the same time and they both had the same feel to them (for the most part), so they kinda merged. Juno Reactor is great- peaceful, worldly sounding, and it's got some sweet sounding beats that are very different than most other techno tracks.
Aphex Twin: drukqs- Erratic, chaotic, and yet it all fits. Very different stuff.
-------------------- What if everything around you Isn't quite as it seems? What if all the world you think you know, Is an elaborate dream? And if you look at your reflection, Is it all you want it to be?

Aerosmith - Get A Grip
This is basically my first cd. Back in the day I was listening to all sorts of country, 'cause of my mom and shit, but I soon found this cd in my dad's collection... ended up borrowing it so much that it became mine. There was this one and some best of John Lennon... but this cd was definitely the gateway to a whole hell of a lot of metal. Livin' On The Edge could still very well be my favourite song.. haven't listened to it forever, though. Or Aerosmith, for that matter.
IN FLAMES - Colony
I had heard a couple of IN FLAMES songs, and I decided to buy a cd.. this was the one that was suggested to me. When I first got it, I could listen to it and not be able to differeniate the songs from one another, but there was something there that kept me listening.. once the sound opened up and I was truly listening, it shocked the hell out of me... so fucking heavy but yet so melodic, Ander's voice rules all.. the songs are perfectly crafted and it blew my mind.. I listen to it now and hear every little aspect of every song, and I get a rush still...
TOOL - Lateralus
Well, this cd cover doesn't look like mine, but ja. hehe. I think we are all familiar with this album and what it consists of... mindblowing stuff. Completely changed the way I think about music when I was on a really strong mushroop trip... rhythmic, melodic, atmospheric, the total fucking package.. I haven't even begun to reach the depths of what makes this music what is. I'm still exploring.
Well, these would be the major ones.. probably didn't even really need to mention the Aerosmith one save for the fact that it was my first cd and stuff.. of course, there are still hundreds of cds that have collectively changed my life.. I wasn't able to choose a METALLICA one. hehe. Peace.

Tool - Lateralus The album that got me into Tool, even tho I had heard Aenima a thousand times already. The depth and complexity this album has is beyond even the musicians... it's one of those masterpieces that just had to come out, the band was only a means to an end. Pure creativity, Talent, Brilliant conceptualization, engineering, production, everything.
Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here The album that got me into Pink Floyd. It took a trip to hear more than I kept hearing on the surface, and once I did, it stayed in my cd player for weeks. During the trip, I was SO THERE. amazing.
Jimmy Eat World - Clarity Yep, I love this album. It's convenient when they're a local band here, and used to play 4 times a year around Phoenix. Gorgeous harmony, amazing melodies and hooks, and almost completely devoid of any Pop-rock crap that people normally associate with them. This put a guitar in my hand. And it also helped in the up's and down's of a few girlfriends...
Boards of Canada - Geogaddi So comforting, yet so mysterious...Music changed for me after I heard this CD, I couldn't believe how much this album changed my state of being while it was on... It did stuff to me that I didn't know was possible, and I don't even know what it does....I almost feel violated. It's so sweet, but at the same time something's happening underneath.
Chemical Brothers - Surrender Got me into techno. Their trippiest album, especially "Let Forever Be" and "Sunshine Underground". For years, every time I'd listen to it, I'd find something new in it.
did someone say Blink 182?

I can't think of a single one. I don't think any of my favorite albums came close to changing my life. The way I think about music and stuff, maybe. And it's not just albums, either. It's actually more likely to be just a song. Not even a song, actually. Just the whole thing, I guess. It's hard to describe.
It would go back to the first music I can remember hearing. Poppy early-90s dancehall and Lynyrd Skynyrd and FM radio music, songs from movies, the first two CDs we bought for our first CD player (To the Extreme and an Erik Satie thing). And the first ever tapes that I bought with my own money (a compilation of themes from science-fiction TV shows and Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness). All of the albums that I loved after that (Graceland, Ready to Die, Under Construction, Aaliyah, Illmatic, Tigermilk, whatever) and all of the songs that I loved for a hundred years and all of the ones that I loved for three minutes.
But, like, it can't even be confined by albums. Or even just pieces of music. It's the way that I saw people listening to it and the way that I listened to it. Summertime afternoon drives on twisty roads with the sunroof open, turning up the songs we liked on the radio ("Informer" was number one). Learning about music as a consoler and subcultural identifier and language and political tool. Hearing it alone on headphones, at the first hardcore I went to, in the club with beautiful lights and girls. Hearing the Smiths over the Gilmore Girls closing credits. Hearing "Get Low" in a crowded club for the first time and watching that skinny white girl with the dorsal fin nose and the 1983 dress with the brown boots swishing her ass down and being totally amazing. Banging "Still D.R.E." in the summer with the windows rolled up and cold air blowing and feeling it in the steering wheel and the pedals. Masturbating to Chingy videos. Whatever. Everything.

Sorry. Short answer: No albums have ever changed my life. It's so much more than albums. It's the moments and the ideas that float around and sit inside the music, in whatever format it is. Fuck albums.
