cobweb? PICS
    #2228712 - 01/08/04 03:02 PM (20 years, 2 months ago)

My indian friend has 3 half-pint jars in an incubator waiting for full colonzation (others are already birthed) but yesterday he thought he saw somthing that looked like cobweb. It was on all three of the jars, and on one of them, the bottom looks gray/blueish, and he heard this maybe be cobweb. He took some pictures of it...

bottom of one jar

he doesn't really mind if it is cobweb, after all, this was his first try and at least the other 7 cakes are still going good.

thanks for any help you can give him

In my humble opinion...

That's healthy mycelium, with a bit of bruising on the bottom.  Time to birth that jar and see what develops. :mushroom2:

ya it is kinda hard to tell but the top and bottom look fine the middle looks a little iffy to me but IMO the other 2 are fine.If they look a little off, just keep them isolated from the rest once you birth them .Good luck

alright thanks... He'll give it to a friend to try out in their fruiting chamber.

If it is cobweb, all he would have to do is spary the chamber with lysol to clean it right?

No, 10% hydrogen peroxide (3% H202) with 90% water. Spray the cakes.

I also believe that's mycelium. Pics 1 and 3 can show that, the mycelium is somewhat fluffy and maybe a bit bruised but nothing to worry about. Pic 2 is kind of dark and it could be cobweb but i doubt it.
