Want to Identify possible aspen bolete (Leccinum insigne). Flagstaff, AZ
    #22222314 - 09/11/15 02:37 PM (8 years, 7 months ago)

Found what I think are some aspen boletes (Leccinum insigne) but its my first time finding this species so I'm not sure.  They were found amoungst aspen trees at about 9k feet in elevation.  Also, I came across some information that leads me to believe that the Leccinum species my not be safe to eat anymore anymore?  Does anyone have any further information on this?

The mushrooms in the image have some bruising which seemed to be easy to cause.  One young cap cut, and one mature mushroom.  All that I found were darker red when young and faded towards orange brown with age.

Thanks!
