Obviously, its a Brugmansia

Can anyone help me identify this plant? I know its a Brugmansia but it's grown in LA as an ornamental plant. Also, all the trees I've found have no seed pods. Is this because it was cloned or taken as a cutting? Like with morning glories, they don't seed if it was taken as a cutting. Just a thought. I'm interested in Datura as a plant but the drug descriptions don't sound pleasant. Can you properly ID this tree datura. Common and Latin names are appreciated.

This thread was moved from Other Drugs Discussion.
Reason: Drug identification is not within ODD forum guidelines, and plant identification is best suited to The Ethnobotanical Garden, where you will be more likely to receive a reliable answer.

This is Brugmansia suaveolens. It can form seeds but it is rare and the seeds aren't always viable. This plant is mainly propagated via cuttings.

That's good to know, I was thinking Brugmansia arborea at first.

B.arborea has a long calyx that hangs about halfway down the flower. It's similar though.

According to its conservation status, it's extinct in the wild. Is this because it doesn't seed easily? Would it be wise to reintroduce it or would it be futile since the reintroduced plant wouldn't be able to pass down its genetics and further the species? Also, this is just interesting as a side note but theres a butterfly that targets this Brugsmansia and uses scopolamine as a defense mechanism. Awesome. Thanks for your ID

From first glance it looks like a Brugmansia sueveolens but I'm honestly not entirely sure. I have a list of identifying features for every brugmansia species known, I'll flip through it tomorrow and see if I can give you a better answer.
You can seed brugmansia from cutting so that's probably a cultivar, most brugmansia cultivars won't seed.
I have a cutting from a brugmansia suoveolens that seeds. I have a cutting from a brugmansia suoveolens 'snowbank' that does not seed.

Is the list you have digital? I'd love a copy. A resource like that would provide me with many hours of reading and research. If its not digital, could you tell me where i can find it? AND BTW who is the naked hippy chick? Sooooooo Hot! Its tastefully perverted.
