Sterilizing Ziplock....filter patch on bag?
    #2169428 - 12/08/03 05:04 PM (20 years, 3 months ago)

This is a tek a friend wanted to use and he wanted a few questions answered..
http://www.nansnook.com/archives/tek/lazymofobags.htm

First off - can you boil a ziplock bag to make sure its sterile? It had been used for something before, just hold a syringe or something , its not dirty.

Also, could he make a filter patch with a tyvek and tape it over holes in the bag with some really strong tape?

Thanks a lot for your help - peace

Ziplock bags can be PCed but it takes some work for it to be done right. The bags that verm comes in on the other hand can be PCed as long as they don't touch the walls of the PC. So I would not see why someone could not take the bag that there verm came in, fill it half way to 2/3 full with rye berries or wbs, PC it and dump in a PFed jar in a clean area/glovebox/flowhood. With the bag sealed you could break up the jar worth of good stuff, toss it in your warm dry place and wait a week, should be covered by then. The reason the bag tek works and usually does not contam is due to it colinizing so fast. Not sure how well the tape would hold to the bag during the PC. I would recommend some good superglue that can take extreme heat and pressure, a good epoxy should do. None of my friends have tested this out but I would be interested to know how well it works and how fast. If anyone's pets or friends or foaf's have tried this out or are willing to it would be great to hear the results.
