Is it just me, or is the Bruce part of the story just boring as hell? I find the gang/Gordon portions much more interesting and entertaining.

First time I watched the show, couldn't get into it. Came back a while later and watched it again and started liking it.
I actually like Bruce's character and story. I also think that Bruce's character will grow as he ages in the show. He is still a kid, so I think the show would be pretty boring it was centered around him vs Gordon and Penguin.

I get that but surely they could have found some way to make it interesting. As it is now, it almost feels like his parts are the commercial breaks in between the actual show. Watching him transform from innocent boy to crime fighting bad ass just isn't really entertaining and doesn't even come close to competing with watching how Gotham ends up being the train wreck we're all used to.

Yeah having Gotham with Bruce as a child obviously he can't do much so it's all old crime bosses that pre date the batman series.I lost interest after a few seasons

it was Fox's answer to "relevant original programming", along side of AMC and Netflix and the like.
but they obviously failed.

I've been watching the first season lately and I think it's a pretty solid show personally. I'm not much of a TV watcher either. Anyone else like this show?

Did you mean episodes? The second season only just started.
I think it's a pretty good show. Good casting and art direction choices. I find it more enjoyable to watch than any of the Batman movies or shows. Bruce Wayne is a side character but that's by design.

Yeah I can't really figure out what it is that some people apparently hate about it. My best guess from the comments here is that they were expecting a show where Bruce Wayne was the main character, and don't like it because it's not that. Primarily the story centers around Jim Gordon and his rise to prominence, and the story arcs on the origins of Batman and the villains are secondary to that.
IMO Batman himself is kind of a dull character in general anyway. The villains are what make Batman stuff interesting. Not that Gordon is particularly interesting either, but it just wouldn't make sense for Bruce Wayne to be the center of the story given his age at the time.

Personally I just thought the acting was really cheesy and found it hard to get into. I don't completely hate it, but I did stop watching about half way through the first season.

True, there are a couple of corny actors. The guy who pays Gordon is kind of borderline but bearable. A bit better than when he was on "The OC" though. The gangster "Maroni" is pretty cringeworthy.
The guy who plays Penguin is awesome though IMO, same with Falcone, Gordon's partner, Selina Kyle, etc. I'm a Star Trek fan, a few corny actors doesn't bug me too much as long as there are some good ones.

Harvey Bullock, Carmine Falcone, and Cobblepot are so the best fucking characters on that show. The actor that plays Cobblepot is seriously amazing at portraying Penguin.

Yeah the guy who plays Cobblepot kills it, plus the physical resemblance is pretty incredible. Much more natural than slapping a prosthetic nose on someone.

The only thing I don't like about the show is the Bruce parts. They're just boring to me I dunno. I feel like they just threw in his parts because they're somehow obligated to do it. The rest I love.

Ehh some of them where alright. I liked seeing Alfred kick some ass and I liked that whole part where Selina and Bruce where on the run from the assassins.
Other then that the whole young Bruce detective story wears thin at times and the whole Alfred and Bruce Wayne father figure type awkwardness feels weird. It's weird seeing the conflict Alfred and Bruce have as accepting each other as family. Alfred clearly cares about Bruce as a son but Bruce doesn't believe that Alfred is anything more to him then his Butler but Alfred really cares about Bruce and it's weird and frustrating not seeing Bruce share the same feelings back.
