How long does it take for B+ to....
    #2160574 - 12/05/03 04:31 AM (20 years, 4 months ago)

How long does it take the B+ strain to completely colonize a cake and be ready for birth? My friend has had his going for about 3 weeks now and they are almost totally white. Is this too long? if so, is there any thing he can do to speed it up?

Thank you

if you keep them at 86F constantly they will fully colonise in less than 2 weeks, they also need to be phisically broken away from the jar....hold the jar in one hand and then hit your other palm and the cake will break free...i have found that this gets things going like nothing else can.
also if you have tape over your inoc holes then remove it....better still dont use tape period.

not sure what the temp is, but he says its nice and toasty in there. So, if u took the tape off they would begin to colonize faster?

are they in an incubator? if the temp is to high growth will slow down.
taking the tape off will allow more oxygen exchange and might speed up the growth alittle.

theyre in a plastic bin and wrapped in numerous towels. A light keeps them fairly warm.

Yup, Im getting pint cakes of B+ to colonize in 10 days, thanks to my new incubator.

i doubt it. but good for you if a pint really take 10 days where you live, especially with B+ ...

I am, but I must admit that I am probably sacrificing some yield for speed due to my mass inoc method, injecting four spots around the jar. Its a fair trade for me.

perhaps I was lucky, on first try I got my cakes done in 1 week then they started to fruit on the 10th day afterwards. Then I harvested them in 16th day.
