 Back to the Future III - The Telescope Scene

So the scene in this awesome film aslways puzzled me as a kid guess i was just dumb huh, then when i was older i thought i figured it out but had to make this post to see others opinions.
the scene:
doc and marty are in the shed running over the model set up when clara calls in to drop off her "borken" telescope to emit (can't believe i never noticed his name till so late on too haha) and this is the confusing part, she drops it off to have it fixed saying if you turn it one way it goes all fuzzy and the other everything becomes clear...
that's how telescope works though right?
i eventually figured she was making an excuse to see him?
or i dont know enough about telescopes and there is some kind of fault like this ...?

I haven't seen the movie, but it sounds like she was making an excuse to see him or she was dumb as hell.

I remember seeing this in the theater on my birthday when it first came out, but I don't remember that scene.

i remember it pretty well. he had a pretty neat barn out in the west
i always thought the scene was trying to make her seem naive or stupid. but now that you mention it, she could have very well just been making an excuse to see him
as for the question of if the telescope was actually broken or not... i would research how handheld telescopes worked in 1885. my guess is that telescopes did have focusing lenses by then and she wasnt just unscrewing it

quite true man something of a non event in my life for the most part, and cool memrobilla to have, i remember trying and failing hard at the amiga game then later there were some cartoons like they did with bill and ted, they sorta sucked but ghostbusters worked on this front

on another note, i live right by the parking lot where they shot the car scene with the uranium terrorist and what not. still looks the same.
