Doesn't look dead to me. It actually looks great. Is the casing moist?

The casing, when you apply it, should have enough water so that when you squeeze it really hard only one or two drops of water come out. This is the right moisture level for the casing. It should not dry out -- you'll notice the color will get lighter if it does. If it gets a bit dry, you should mist more frequently, but don't mist too much at one time.
I *really* do not recommend saturating your casings -- it can be a contamination problem.

maybe looks a little dry, what's it seem like? Maybe try misting it a bit, but other than that, you're looking good from here.

ok, there is a darkening when wet that, after a point, will ont become darker. you want your casing [with peat or coir based casing layers] to be just lighter tahn this. if it becoems much lighter, you will want to mist it. never water untill it becomes wet, just keep the casing layer moist. if you do this, and are only misting, not soaking, you will not have as many outbreaks of the green or other molds, as they tend to be present in many casings withot colonizing to any noticable degree only to be spread by watering to the detriment of the whole casing.

Why do you think its dead? How does it look different from other casings you've done? To me, it looks fine. I would shock it and fruit it. Give it a couple weeks, if nothing's happened then start to worry.

Cold shocking is fine -- it can't hurt. It is definately time to fruit. Cold shock in a fridge or a cold room -- anything that's cold but NOT freezing -- overnight and then give it some light at 70-75F.
Good job!
