Using Casing 101 Method Help!
    #2154688 - 12/03/03 10:39 AM (20 years, 4 months ago)

I'm using this method but not seeing pinning even after cold shock for 12 hours, I know its supposed to be 24 hours of cold shock but does this really make a difference? I'm in need of this fast for scheduled delivery. I've been fanning it 2 times a day and the temp is around mid 70s also the fruiting chamber is pretty moist, there is little droplets of moisture all around including the covering which is clear. I'm also using indirect blue plant light for light source 12/12. Any tips? The the myc... can't spell it out but its covering 50% of the area on top randomly in thick portions and it does continue to grow which means it isn't dry right? I used vermaculite for top and bottom layer.

this is my first try, the pic is exactly how mine looks except that I have it floating on water with temp controller so it stays at least 75 degrees. Should I just take it out of it?

Alright I took it out of the other case so now its on its just like the picture, but now the myco arg can't spell it its really covering alot of the vermaculite. another thing is on one of the casing, there is these really small black looking dots that stick up with a stem, they are so small though u'd have to look real carefully to notice them. Is this normal or is it a contamination?

Another quesiton is is this method better or is the method where you leave the cakes as it is from the jar better? Which pins faster and grows faster?

Ok, I totally lost ya. But whatever you have going on, just make sure the inside of the terrarium is:

-73-76 degrees...if it goes above this or below this by 2 degrees, its not the end of the world. These shrooms can actually take a really bad beating and still grow!  :crazy2:

-That you have good humidity (doesnt have to be perfect all the time, just as long as it's getting fanned enough...about 2-3 times a day)

-Light for just half a day, not extremely important. :shake:

- And if you still dont get anything, just let it sit at room temp for a few days, sometimes that gives my pinning a little kick in the ass without worrying about overgrowth of the mycellium and overlay.

- These arent official ways, just what I do, and I always get results, its all trial and error. :smirk:

this was day one after I transferred them to the fruting chamber.

this is day three after the transfer, its got some explosive growth, is this normal?

this is another pic on the same day, its like snow on the vermaculite, what do you guys think? It sill has no sign of pinning yet even though I had given the "cold shock" 2 days ago.

Whats used for humidity? Whats the temp?
Looks like you can just lower the temp to about 68-70ish and just let it chill out at room temp before it gets bad overlay from all of the warmth and humidity.
But still, whats the humidity and temp please!

temp was 77ish as for the humidity I dont have a device to measure this but I'm sure its plenty of humidity inside the case. In fact I think there maybe little too much since there are large drops of water forming on the lid. I took it off the temp, its sitting on the room floor with a blue plant light bulb giving it indirect light.

Its only been 3-4 day?  I seen casing's take alot longer than that to start pinnig!  I'd keep the temp around 70-74 take a bong hit and wait a few more days untill you start to freak out.

These casings took about a week and a half to start pinning,

KindKesey thanks for the pic and info but what I'm beginning to worry about is the amount of myc. on my casing, could it be cuz its just vermaculite? I have like 2 times more of the myc. then ur's which has been a week and a half. I'm hoping that its just a sign of healthiness?

As for the cold shock I already had done that for 12 hours right after I put it in the fruiting chamber.

I'm also getting worried cuz the myc just keeps growing and there isn't any sign of pinning, I was informed that if there is too much myc on the casing its not going to fruit.

My hippie friends looked like that, but they were "patched" a couple of times. Once, while they were still in the incubater, then once more while in the fruiting chamber. This will help to get an even pin set.  They look kool, just wait a few more days.

Dont worry about it. But just lower the temp to about 70 (or just plain roomtemp) for a couple days. Maybe 3 days. It wont grow over so much. I guarentee you that if you turn the temp off and leave it for a few days that youll start seeing pins. Just make sure you keep fanning and mist if you see the casing getting dry...just be patient, even I still get impatient at that stage, and Ive done it so many times, its just nerve racking for you because you think your doing something wrong, but your not. Just turn the temp off untill it pins. If this doesnt work, and srews up anything, yoiu can hold me personaly responsible

Yeah, what Northensoul said!  And you can hold him responsible!  He's right, keep the temp down and stay kool.

  it'll happen!

I"m feeling very uneasy about this one, why doesn't it show any sign of growth? I need these by the 15th at least!
