NO INCUBATION time for casing?????,

I was told that I could put my casing RIGHT INTO FRUITING after making it, which seems to go against the FAH-q ??????????????? "Once the casing has been created it should be left at colonization conditions to allow the mycelium to permeate the casing layer. This is called the post casing/pre pinning stage. The casing layer should be left in darkness, with a RH of 95 %, incubation temperature (80 - 84?F), and no CO2exchange (meaning, no fresh air exchange). In small setups this incubation period is often achieved by covering the casing container with aluminium/tin foil or an opaque lid. If you use a lid and the lid closes very tightly, some small holes should be poked into the lid to allow for some gas exchange. If you use foil holes are not needed since the foil doesn't seal the casing container off completely. The cover will allow for the CO2 to build up within darkness, while maintaining the high RH required for this stage."
Well I was told that I can mist my bread pan until water drips out the bottom every 24 hours for 3 days then just leave it in the fruiting chamber, this is my first casing by the way
anyway wouldnt this affect an even pinset??????????

Some put casings in incubation and some don?t. Some say that the mycellium momentum will colonize the surface of the casing no matter if you incubate or not. Some patch case after seeing spots with myc growing and some don?t. Some let colonize completely the surface with great results (see the Grow Log section) and others don?t like to do so.You will need to find what works best for you. About watering you sure need to do it if grain is the substrate. I like Nanook?s method: Read the "Water delivery to casings" archive in http://www.nansnook.com/index2.htm

Well if its a tradeoff of neven pinset for a fatter flush thats cool, but then again like you say "Some say that the mycellium momentum will colonize the surface of the casing no matter if you incubate or not."
I was ASKING NAN himself about this and he told me "try both and see which you like best"
I thoght he might just not want to answer my qestion in detail , because of recent problems at the nook , but from what you have wrote I am THINKING that this NO INCUBATION thing is like a BOTTOM CASING LAYER????????????
in the myco world it seems these things are up to the individual , and I remember that NAN was saying the bottom casing layer is added because people dont hydrate their casings enough.

The mycelium will still colonize the casing at fruiting temps, but it will do so a lot slower, and when things take more time contamination has more of an opprotunity to contaminate things.
I'd really advise people to colonize their casings the right way -- at 80-85 degrees, because you want the mycelium to have a good foothold on the casing as soon as possible.
Noone's to say you can't just fruit it, though....

roadkill says he just births his first flush of horse dung casings with out even having a casing layer then after the first flush he cases i seen some pics a while back and looked real good to me your grow chamber has to be able to have very high humidity for this, i pulled it off with a straw casing on 100 humidity untill pinning then lowered it to 90 humidity after i seen pins

I'd suggest incubating your casing for a couple of days, and then putting it in the fridge for 12-24 hours, then into the terrarium. It's worked for me!

I?ve seen pics of cubensis fruiting the same as oyster shrooms (bag cultivation), just substrate 100% colonized in a bag with some holes made on it. The problem is that I can?t remember where I saw the pics.

I saw another thing, it was a closed substrate bag fully colonized in which the grower made holes around the bag to let the mycellium get air and the shrooms grow. But this one is even better, more surface to let pins to develope.
Thank you Anno, I missed that one searching the Nook archives.

Well I am going to SOAK it down (the casing(s)) for 3days, like NAN said, and during this time I will have it in the incubation chamber, then on day 4 I guess I will birth it
FUCK I HOPE THIS WORKS
this is my first casing and I am afriad that "being on the cutting edge" is going to be risky now nu- to caisngs ME.

well I am scared
You see Anno I have NEVER made a casing and I dont want to fuck up, althogh I have 4 Quart jars so I guess I have some room for trial and error.
I just dont want to SOAK and have it bite me in the ass, if all I lose by this soak for 3 days then birth , is an even pinset , so what, and if what I gain is a larger faster flush then I guess I was a pussy for being scared but, I dont want to fuck this up.
I will be posting pics in the grow log soon, I hope everything goes welland ANNO if you think this is complex well....I am shitting myself

"Just keep in mind that the more evenly the mycelium appears in the valeys of the casing layer , the more chance of an even pin set. And an even pin set means more yield per sq. foot on the first flush than a non -even pin set. Don't make the mistake to cover every hint of a mycelium with more casing material for a prolonged time, this leads to nothing. Once the mycelium is more or less visible in the valeys of the casing layer throughout the casing surface, it's time to put it into the fruiting chamber."
I am going to try both.

And what would happen if you DO fuck up? It?s not the end of the world! You will learn from your mistakes .

He's right, im sitting next to a cobweb bulk casing, I probably screwed it up, but oh well, i'll try again, and next time it won't contamn, and i'll get some fruits, at least I learned that you want to throw out your pasteurized substrate when you are not exactly sure if the temps didnt go above 170*F.
Mycology is a hobby which requires patience.
As a last thing, don't make it too complicated, you are most likely not going to get a perfect casing the first time you try it, maybe you won't get a perfect second casing, but practise makes perfect, thats what makes this hobby fun and worthwhile.

I'm with Anno (of course) and Erik. DOn't complicate things. Lets remember that these things originally came from the wild... survival of the fittest... they thrive. Just give them the proper conditions and they will fruit. I had 100% success on my first casings... lost 1 on my second run... no big deal... are you dealing with grain or pf?
