Tripping blind
    #2129034 - 11/22/03 11:30 AM (20 years, 4 months ago)

Has anyone ever tripped with a blind person?

My cousin is going to be visiting me next week. He is from North Carolina and he is blind. We have talked about my mushroom experiences many times and he is curious and wants to try them. It should be interesting, huh?

I wonder if he will get any CEV's?

wow that would be cool if he got cev's, especially if he has been blind from birth. imagine how you would feel if all the sudden you saw color for the first time. heh, and on shrooms no less. i'm rather curious about this, good luck to you both!

He is 40 years old and has been blind since he was five. He barely remembers seeing at all. One of his only memories is of his mothers face. He doesn't recall color very well at all, so yes, this should be interesting!

I will definitely write up a trip report after it happens.

he probably wouldn't get visuals because after a period of time the visual part of the brain closes down. it'd probably be a really intense psychological trip. the stream of consciousness is what dreaming is for a blind person and that's reflective of the real world and possibly tripping as well. good luck

I totally disagree with the statement of the "visual part of the brain shutting down" There are people who have been blind since birth and new breakthrough techniques in medicine have been able to give them back there sight through transplants or other surgeries. They have to go to rehab for a few months to teach themselvles focusing-perspecetiveness-color and things of that nature that we aquired while infants, but not at all does that part of the brain shut down. There was even a guy I saw on the discovery channel a few months ago who had his eyes and all organs underneath completely burned out from an acid-chemical spill when he was 7. 45 years later docs located the nerve stumps buried within his face (where his seeing mechanisms used to be) and they actually found some way to connect a camera like device to these nerves. When they took off the bandages, the only thing he could see was just Bright light due to these senses being hibernating for so long...but after a few days, he began to see figures and depict objects. In a months worth of rehab, he was able to actually see his children for the first time in his life. Amazing... hugh considering the eye is one of the most complex organs. Of course this camera transplant is not as good as natural born eyes but it beats being blind and this procedure was done 5 years ago!!! Definatley a breakthrough. The docs said at the end of the documentary that in a few decades, they will be able to make computerized glass eyes that connect to the multiple nerves and will not only look like, but rival natural eyes!!!

that's pretty interesting. i've had a conversation with my friend about this and that's why i said it. i'm sure you can't generalize it for all blind people though.

That is true but for a guy who had all organs involved in seeing totally melted...I think he would be one of the more extreme cases. And he could see more than just outlines....they showed us exactly what he could see and it looked like a 1980 black and white camera. No color but shades-objects came out quite clear.

That would suck. But I don't think that because he is blind it makes it any more likely. And if he does have a bad trip I do not think that because he is blind it will be any worse.

I am not sure exactly how we will do this. If anyone has any suggestions on preperation, feel free to post them.

Thanks.

I wonder if he will get any CEV's?

Does he get any when he dreams? If so I imagine he'll get some when he's tripping.

No, the guy doesn't dream. As a matter of fact, He does not ever remember having a dream.
