Cobweb mold on dry verm layer (PF jar method)?
    #2094805 - 11/11/03 11:20 PM (20 years, 5 months ago)

I just birthed my first jar today. When i broke the seal, if found a small permientation of really fluffy white fuzz on the layer of dry vermiculite. I have read that this is often found by other growers and it is usually nothing (just the conlony trying to expand)... but being a newbie, i worry about my babies. The cake was fully colonized and it is currently being dunked.
My Questions are:

1) should i worry that this "fuzzy cobweb mold" or not?

2) if it is, how likely is it that the other jars were effected? (Note: jars where colonized in close proximity to one another and where inverted to supply more O2. Many cakes slid down when this happened.)

3) how much do you love mushrooms?

P.S. The jars had no smell except the sweet smell of mushrooms!

Well cobweb is realy fluffy, with a gray tinge.
It is common for the cubensis mycelium to go aireal
when it runs out of cake to colonise, you need to work out
which is which, imo it does just sound like aireal cubensis
mycelium, but as i cant see it, i cant say 100%

look for pictures of cobweb, and see if its what you have.

good luck, and fingers crossed.

It?s likely mycelium, not cobweb mold.
