drying question and idea

soon i will need to dry half a dozen shrooms or so, and i was planning on using silica gel. the only reason for this is that i have found it in large supply and it is readily available...... my cat's litter is 100% silica crystals, sold at safewy. would this stuuf work to dry shrooms? could i burry the shrooms in this stuff to dry them? (i plan on using CLEAN litter of course)

first off do not bury them in the silica gel, very bad idea. you don't wany to be eating the chems from the litter that absorbs into
the mush.

what you need to do is suspend the shrooms over the dessicant without it touching the surface. use a screen or something to keep them up above the dessicant.

the litter will work, the only prob is that it contains a fragrance and that can flavor the mush in a not so good way, who wants to eat cat litter shrooms?

just get some damp-rid, that imparts no flavor and works great. oh yeah and make sure to fan dry them first. speeds up the process.

I have never had a problem just letting them fan dry for a couple days and then I put them in the freezer till I want to eat em. No probs so far

This doesn't work if you live where it's 95% rh outside everyday.

Fan for a day, dry over dessicant in a sealed container.

Repeat until enlightenment. Or until cracker dry.

Like I said, I have never had a problem just fan drying (well that must mean I don't live in an area of hight humidity)
