"Knowing" beyond beliefs, beliefs and Hypnosis...

Ever wonder if all this talk about no-mind, you will KNOW the Truth when your mind is quiet and undisturbed by thought, etc is all just another Belief ? Just another Mental "Trick" ? Another form of Hypnosis ? The reason I'm questioning this is because I've had some recent direct experience with a state of an unusually quiet mind with none of the Bliss etc usually purported by New-Age gurus... For the longest time I didn't really have a perspective to make any sense of what these people were talking about (but it sounded wonderful - uninterrupted bliss, yeah I'll take some of that ), but now that I feel I do (Experientially)...I'm wondering...

I've been wondering about this quite a lot recently.

Same thing here...that's why I'm wondering. Then again, belief systems were created by humans, so technically any part could be flawed. I just don't think anyone has hit the nail on the head yet. Just my opinion.

Yup, everyone points to the Buddha as the quintessential example of Awakening/Enlightenment/Psychological Evolution etc, and everyone regurgitates his teachings in some way or another. For the longest time, the teachings made sense to me in a sort of intellectual way and appealed greatly to me, to the point where I was quite emphatically convinced and went around espousing the teachings. However after many years of meditation, a fair bit of solitary retreat, some very interesting experiences while meditating (quiet mind, shifts in conciousness etc) and a bad Shroom induced Depression, I'm truely beginning to reconsider the efficacy of Meditation and the notion of a "True Self" beyond thought... NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) talks a lot about how everything is a form of Hypnosis and the popular "The map is not the territory" analogy. Perhaps they have a more accurate model than New-Age proponents and Buddhist views... I'm ambivilant, I'm still meditating cause I'm still curious to see where/if anywhere it leads (Metaphorically speaking)...

When the world as you know it stops persisting, only Truth is perceived.

Are you meditating on a beautiful and appealing 'lake,' or on the 'Ocean of Existence?' Will you be fulfilled by the occasional nibble on your line, or are you open to being swallowed by a 'Great Fish?' Are the 'minor mysteries' sufficient for your current level of development, or are you ready for the 'Great Mystery?' The foolishness of GOD is Greater than the Wisdom of men.
