anyone ride a sportbike?

Ok so basically all I've ever ridden were like some 125 yamaha dirt bikes back in the day. Nothing since then. And since riding my regular bicycle a lot lately, I am lovin 2 wheels. I want a honda cbr 600rr for my first bike.
Any tips? Suggestions? I guess I'll check out licensing process in my state and see what's what. I know some of my friends just said incrementally moving up your limits is the key, and never rode on the freeway til they had done in town for quite a while, like several months. I just like the idea of something fun, fast, good on gas, easy to park, and fast.

I would like a sportbike, but not one that costs like 10 grand. I'd even be happy with one of those scooters that goes like 65 mph max and gets 70 miles per gallon. I wouldn't have to fuckin' walk everywhere then.

you can get a really nice barely used superbike for like 5-6 grand. i see lots of cbr1000rr with 8k miles lookin really cherry for 6k.
gahhhh! i can buy one i just need a job right to use it to go to

I want one too, but the risks are just like wtf! Why are there bad drivers on the road these days, or why can't I be indestructible like superman.

I got an 05 zx10r, got a good deal on it. I stripped into a streetfighter. it's great fun.
the sports bike thing was fun for a while, but the streetfighter was much more comfortable and fun to ride.

Also keep in mind that the difference in weight between a 1000cc and a 600 or 750cc is pretty significant. While a 1000 is gonna be good fun, it's hardly 'light'. Can be pretty heavy at the best of times. a 750 is a happy medium for power and weight, but i prefer the litrebikes because I'm a fat cunt

Just respect the power and speed of your bike and don't ride like a fool, splitting lanes and stuff. Keep stunts to abandoned parking lots, not on the road with traffic.

I love sport bikes! I used to have a 2012 FZ6R but it was too slow. I'm building the 750 motor to drop into my 600 GSXR frame, and almost done with a Kawasaki 1000cc bike. Hopefully I get the Kawasaki done today and get to take it for a spin.

Nothing makes me happy anymore. I use drugs and alcohol to numb the pain, and my sense of humor to hide the rest. I don't share these feelings with anyone in real life.

If you're in the US look into the MSF courses. You go take a 2 day course and they show you how to manage a bike in simple "oh shit" type situations. You get your license and a discount on insurance when your done. Also a little card that says you took a course so when you get pulled over you pull that out with your DL and tell the cop "for what it's worth..." and get off tickets like mad cuz he doesn't think your just another cheese dick. Also, actually pull over and stop right away. They don't expect that and I've never gotten a ticket with those 2 things.
Starting out on dirtbikes is great. You've got the mechanics of riding down and you won't be scared shitless if the bike starts to wiggle a little (it'll wiggle, or you're not having enough fun). I went around on a 125cc scooter before I picked up my R6. You'll be fine with that base mechanics of riding down.
Pick up a 600, change that shit stock gearing, change the exhaust, get a power tuner, take them to track days (the ones with turns, don't be a tool and only drag your sportbike). Don't fuck around on the street all the time, you WILL end up seriously fucked. Find a track and exploit the fuck out of it.
Crash your nice new 600 at the track enough to make it track only and un-streetable. Buy another bike. Rinse repeat.

Sportbikes are cool, I even own one, but I find enduro/dualsport bikes to be way more fun. You can ride both trails and on the street. Plus, insurance is dirt cheap on them. Also, if you drop a sportbike youre gonna have busted fairings, handlebars, engine covers, ect. If you drop a dirtbike you may have a bent brake or clutch lever.

I wouldn't get a bike with fairings, or a sport 600, for your first. You'll most likely lay it down at some point, so naked frame would be best. I had an old bandit 600 as my first, then a 2k1 GSXR 600. Very happy that I started with a slower bike, but I quit riding a few years ago after being almost killed by blind drivers. Definitely take the safety courses if you do ride, though.

This. I really really want a motorcyle/crotch-rocket, but it's just not worth it because of how many bad drivers are on the roads.

I ride a sportbike and although I encounter bad drivers on a daily basis, I still would not give up riding.
Simple things you can do like wearing a helmet, jacket, gloves, kevlar jeans etc. can all greatly increase your safety. I live in a state where you do not need to wear a helmet and I have not once gone out without mine on. I shake my head at the guys I see riding around on their 1000cc bikes with shorts, flip-flops and a baseball hat on.
If you invest in quality gear, and more importantly make a habit of wearing it, you instantly make riding safer.
Also, although blacking out your bike and wearing dark clothes may make you look cool, it is much harder to be seen. You're not going to be bad-ass when they're peeling you off the road because someone didn't see you. Don't get caught up in the image and focus on riding smart. What type of bike you ride all comes second to safety. You'll find the right bike for you.
