using gladware in place of canning jars?

I just came back from the local pathmark and picked up all my supplies (verm, rice, alchahol) I went to look for jars of some sort and i found those gladware disposable tuperware containers. I picked the 700ML 3 cup "tall" version. They are tapered like i need and I figgure that plastic can replace glass as long as it can survive boiling temps. Are there any reasons (like contams or chems) in perticular why i should'nt be using these containers vs. glass? and should i clean them first or boil them to get any chems in there left from manufacturing? Thanks!

It can stand the steam, i just checked. Are there any other problems? I will be making the cakes tomorrow so if its no good someone please tell me, i dont want to waste my time if there no good. thanks!

both gladware and ziplock containers work fine .in fact, you can even pc them .
just make sure the lid is secure . it's not a good idea to try to reuse them .
700ml is kinda large for cakes though, takes a long time to colonize .

get some jars from the thrift shop. Worth your while.

I am goingto be using birdseed now because i realized i got the wrong rice i picked up uncle bens brown rice, not the organic brown rice. so i think the larger containers will do since i can shake the WBS. Why shouldnt I re-use them?
