[edit: as Gumby stated, you need to use the search before you ask questions as most of them have been asked/answered before, and in most cases many times.]

for an excellent fieldquide focusing on the pacific northwest, i'd have to recomend Mushrooms Demystified by David Aurora. it is conprehensive, large [heh] and contains descent keys to most signifgant genera found in the area. there are descriptions of over 2,000 species and many color plates.

a good general guide for comon species in northa america is National Audobon Societie's Field Guide to North American Mushrooms.
it features descriptions and color plates along with a simple graphic key to genera and a sporeprint color chart. it does, unfortunately, alck keys to the genera.

there are many other signifigant field guides out there aswell and amazon.com's search functions should allow you to find many others.

below is Leonard Enos book on PNW shrooms: Only 5000 copies printed in 1972. Extremely rare and hard to find.

Two German editions of the above book by Garts, the 2nd one being the best of the three different editions.

Italian Guides
:

An Italian guide to liberty caps

A german book with dozens of articles and illustrations on magic shrooms:

Shroom hunting in Mexico:

In the one below Peter Stafford creates a documentary imputr on the magic of shrooms and their history and descriptions of Northwest varieties in the USA:

A german edition of Staffords Mushroom Chapter:

Paul Stamets first book:

Paul's 2nd shroom book

This next one is also available in Dutch:

Andrew Weil has 3 chapters on Shroom Hunting in Oregon:

An Amanita book with dozens of chapters and many illustrations:

Another Dutch Guide to hunting magic shrooms:

The longest selling magic mushroom ID guide in the world:

Hawaiian Shroom Guide:

Third World countries Shroom Guide

A guide to Southeast Asia chapter in this book

And the latest from Peter Stafford with a cover by me and a Balinese artist.

Mj, of course there is the Audubon Fild Guide and Simon and Schulster Field guides, both edited by Gary Lincoff, there are three good books by Joseph Ammirati on Northwest poisonous, edible and hallucinogenic guides, several guides on edibles and other species by Alexander H. Smith and the Agaricales by Rold Singer and gaston Guzman's The Genus Psilocybe, any of the writings of Ott, Singer, Pollock, Allen, Gartz, , Roger Heim , Paul Stmets and the writings of R. Gordon Wasson and Peter Furst and Ternece and Dennis mcKenna and. or Timothy Leary's High Priest and Flashback and the Sacred Mushroom Seeker edited by Thomas Reidlinger are recommended. Orson Miller has a good guide and for edibles Margaret McKenny and Daniel Stuntz' The Savory Wild Mushroom.

mj
ANd that is only a small portioon o f my library books on shroom hunting, mainly these are the psychoactive species. There are also guides to Mexico by Big D and two guides to mushrooms of British Colombia.

Not counting the more than 15 books on psilocybian mushroom cultivation
hope that helps you out somewhat

Mj, if you were going to take the time to answer a question that's been answered hundreds of times before, why not be practical and just post 3-4 of your favorite books?

I think posting 30 something images of books is a bit much(eats bandwidth too!).

I like the name, Alounacara. Not many people are big into fish 'round these parts.

MJ,

That is one superb collection. I own a few of those titles, and I am slowly adding it as I go along.

Just out of interest, I notice you have several books which are in Itailian, German or Dutch, do you speak these languages?
