Staining colors
    #2002187 - 10/12/03 09:37 AM (20 years, 6 months ago)

I have some mushrooms growing in a composite of hay, horse dung, and cow dung. They look a lot like cubes, but they seem to stain a dark red to almost purple. Do any other mushrooms stain? I will have some pics in a bit. Thanks

Those are still buttons, so that makes it a bit tougher. They're probably Agaricus of some sort. Get a spore print to verify that.

On the positive side, the red staining Agaricus species are edible.

Keep us posted.

Happy mushrooming!

Damn it, I thought for sure they were cubes, that sucks...=( Oh well, guess I will keep looking. Also, are cube prints almost black??? I found a few shrooms that look funny and have a black print. I've never seen any thing like them in anywhere. If some are growing when I'm not having to woek, ill take some pics. =)

Well... let's start with the basics. Where are you looking for these supposed cubes? What state are you in?
