how important is RH with casings?
    #1992862 - 10/09/03 09:48 AM (20 years, 6 months ago)

ive been hearing contradictions as to whether the environment of the casing needs to be 85 Rh versus just misting and fanning regularly. if my FAOF is able to mist and fan whenever necessary, like every 2 hour fan and mist when applicable could the environment itself be like 50-60 Rh. or is it that once pinning starts i need environment to be 85 but until then casing layer creates the micro-environment for mycelia?
hopefully made sense, damn weed  :bong:

The casing provides the moisture for the mycelium, so the goal is to have enough ambient humidity just so the casing won't dry out. If it's not covered the water from the casing will probably evaporate and the casing will dry out (you should be able to tell if it's dried out by looking at it) unless the humidity around it is controlled so it's high enough to decrease the evaporation rate.

Too much humidity is asking for contaminants.

agreed...but I do think the shrooms need a little humidity as well just to keep from drying out...after experimenting with the shroom wizards tek I realized that the casing layer DOES provide 95% of the moisture but like I said they still need a little bit in the air or they will crack and stay small
