THE OFFICIAL OVOID SEASON THREAD 2014 1

Hello all, noob here to report a whole mess of ovoids found in NE GA . I've hunted this area for the past 4-5 years for weilii with decent results, tho nothing like what the past two weeks have provided. Found these in primarily wood mulch beds, walking trails, landscape beds all surrounding or very nearby a small creek that easily overflows. Very strong green blue bruising, purple brown spore print, they are nice and mellow in comparison to weilii, which can be overwhelming if not careful. They remind me of cubes of old honestly, tho I'm a lightweight. Harvested what turned out to be 2.5 oz dry last week, with this haul looking to be similar or maybe a lil more. So, get outside and stain those hands ladies and gentlemen (I know the fruit is what stains, but when you pick a plethload like this your hands do as well) Cheers all!

From Portland, Oregon, prints umber-purple. No annulus on stipes while previous "ovoids" from this location in Fall did have annulus. TIs, these ovoids?

Really excited about this spring. I have scouted out so many seemingly perfect habitats across two different states. I'm determined to get a grasp on the distribution of ovoids further toward the east coast (between PA and NJ in the Philly area, to be precise). There is very little data as to how common they are in this area. I'm hoping that is because there just aren't that many people in this area that are looking. Would be nice to find out that NJ isn't a total mycological wasteland when it comes to actives.

Small Portland haul. Think I might have got them from the same patch as you latherdome, were a little old and dried out.

Congrats Puntented! This is just the coolest news ever! Good to hear a little comparison to weilii. Also, take those stem butts with all the rhizomorphic mycelium on them and put them between moistened cardboard. You can start some "spawn" from this and go around seeding areas in hopes they will propagate elsewhere.

If the haul was small because there wasn't much else, it wasn't my patch! It would take all day! Let's say it's not all contiguous.
I haven't consumed (or picked any apart from a handful for prints). I have one report that they're kinda weak, especially compared to Fall flush. Like to hear your impressions when you try.

I want to see some comparison of wild fruits as opposed to mulch bed finds.

I also, think I was at that patch (I was in portland sunday) and picked a relative to it's size a very very small amount, because it was clear that other people had been there and had done the same. They look a lot less potent than the ovoids I usually pick here. They blue a lot less, and feel flimsier when they are in those super clusters in that patch. The ones on the out side were a lot better looking and dense like I am used to seeing. I have yet to try them, but I have a feeling that they are not going to be as strong as cyans are like I am used to for ovoids.

Nah, the haul was small 'cause I like to leave plenty for others and there was some old guy staring at me with the evil eye from his front porch the whole time I was sneakily putting them in a bag. That was just skimming the surface. I talked to Ganzig and I guess it's a pretty well known patch.

The old guy south east of the patch? I was getting stared at a little bit by some old guy, but it seemed pretty relaxed.
