Oyster ,mushroom spore print slime

hello Shroomery,

i have started growing oysters recently and i just put some caps on some tinfoil yesterday to make some sporeprints, and today when i took them off there was some white slime on the tinfoil with the sporeprint. Any ideas what happened? i tried to get some spores onto agar, but i am guessing i will need to make new ones.

Sounds like water condensation on the foil.  If you are going to store them, the moisture needs to be gone or you are inviting mold into your print. Search "spore print" you will find tek(s) that instruct you how to do a proper print.

ive done sporeprints before, just not with oysters, didnt really seem like water condensation to me, was quite thick, white, and slimey, i was wondering if leaving them over night was not so good with oysters or someting

I think Knothead is right especially if you left them overnight.  They will form quite a bit of condensation and with the amount of spores they drop you might have ended up with spore paste.

Elevate them a bit over your foil.  Tooth picks placed through the fruit body to make a tripod type of thing will work. 

IMO cloning a proven edible culture is your best bet though.  No sense redoing the work someone else has already mastered.

ah.. spore paste, that seems to make sense. also i put bowls over the caps, like i do with cubes with no problems, so that probably caused serious moisture build up.
Redoing the work is part of the fun :smile: isolating genetics and such
