Temp setting on impulse sealer
    #1974010 - 10/02/03 07:40 PM (20 years, 5 months ago)

I was wondering what the number setting should be on the sealer when sealing the myco bags.

Depends on the type of sealer, condition of the element & teflon and the thickness of the bags. I would set it at the halfway mark and try it. If you do not have a good seal then turn it up a little. If it melts holes in the bag then you should turn it down. I have two sealers a 2mm 12" AIE and a 5mm 12" AIE, both use a different setting. I have to turn the 2mm one up higher. Good luck & I hope that helps.

I have that model. Mine is set at 7.5 on the dial, but it is over 10 years old. Yours may not need to be as high.

Also, any moisture in the bag, near the seal area can greatly affect the setting needed. If you have condensation, or actual water in the bag near the top, you need a higher setting to compensate for it.

Typically 5-7 was plenty for most conditions.

PM me with any cultivation questions.

I just looked at my profile and realized I had a website at one point in time on geocities, it's not there anymore and I have no idea what I had on it. Anybody remember my website from several years aga? PM if so please.

If you set the temp too hot, you will melt a hole in the bag rather than sealing it. If you set the temp too low, you will leave holes in the seal instead of getting something airtight. I tend to do two seals, spaced about 1cm apart. The first one (inner most) I do at a lower temperature to try and get a good seal. The second one (outer most) I do at a higher temperature to ensure a good seal. It is also important to leave the 'arm' on the impulse sealer down for a few seconds after the heat turns off (at least on my model) to ensure that the plastic has time to cool down and bond to itself.
