i hang out with tons of vegans, i could never go that far. you can still eat meat, eggs and cheese and be healthy. i just dont eat them that often and i only eat really good quality meat. no fast food burgers.

most vegetarians/vegans dont do it for health reasons... ive been a vegetarian for a few months now, and my new year's resolution is to be vegan by jan 1 2004. im not doing it for health at all, i just feel shitty using/abusing animals and such.

I'm pretty much vegan except for the odd slip on eggs now and again, and pizza when someone offers it (maybe once every 2 months or so.) I'll be completely vegan by november, I made that promise a long time ago and since I'm moving out of home and only having the groceries i purchase for myself available (and not my mom's) I shouldn't have a problem.

I am 90% vegan. Diving into veganism is not usually recommened; as others pointed out, a gradual shift in diet and lifestyle is essential to making veganism a sustainable choice. Often people "try to be vegan" without much preparation or know-how, and become alienated. I have found the key is to learn how to cook and develop a small garden for your own fruit and vegetables.
Here is a thread I started in Cularinary Arts that has plenty of vegan/mushroom friendly recipes. Also, there are plenty of resources on the net if you need help.
Good luck

I'm a vegan as of last week. I had decided to just be a vegetarian, but I started reading very nasty things about dairy. Since I hate milk, (even though cheese and icecream are great) I just went full vegan.
I think the only difficulty in this is having to do my own grocery shopping soon.
good luck~

I was veggie for 3 years. 41/2, if you include when I ate fish and seafood ( I don't). All I say now is, meat is great. Veggie was fun, and I tried a lot of foods, but I am so glad for meat again. I never went vegan. I think that cheese cultivation is one of the few things that separate us from other animals, and to deny that is to reject your evolution.

I go to a private school where alot of kids are vegans. Its because of the religion, but its not required to be vegan, just lots people in that religion are vegans. So if we have church get togethers and stuff, the food is always vegan food. Ive gotten used to the taste of tofu and soy products. I love veggie pattties and i think veggie meat can make a great sandwitch! I love meat and I dont think i could picture my life without it. I usually have at least 1 meat serving per day. I dunno, might try vegan life for a bit!

I am a rare meat lover who will say this, but some meat substitutes are ok. Some are assbad. Vegan cooking tends to lack something for me. Like fat. I mean, fat really makes things taste better. Next time you cook bacon, save the grease, keep it in the fridge, and cook your poatatoes in it later. You'll thank me.

I've been vegan for like 8 years or so, did so pretty quickly, over the course of about a month. It's forced me to learn to cook a hell of alot better than I did before. My shit's practically glowing.
