Not another P. Weilli thread!
    #1960782 - 09/28/03 07:25 PM (20 years, 6 months ago)

Well, with the recent rain I thought I'd quote some Staments:

"Habit, habitat, and distribution: Gregrious to cespitose, sometimes scattered in red-clay soil topped with a thin layer of needles from the lobolly pine (Pinus taeda) underneath sweetgum (Liquidambar styraciflua). First reported from southeastern Cherokee County, in northern Georgia, after hurricane Opal swept through in 1995. Fruiting from early September through November, between temperatures of 45-80 F, preferring 60-75. Comments: .62% psilocybin, .27% psilocin, .05% baeocystin and 32% tryptophan. This is the first report of a lignicolous, caerulescent Psilocybe from Georgia. The association with pine needles, along an interface ecosystem (just beyond the edge of an eight-year-old yard lined with shrubs, and in red-clay soils), are habits typical of many opther Psilocybes."

Good luck to everyone, and may you find a cornicopia of mushrooms this fall.

This information is still useful to identify P. Weilli

I think it is important for people to read ALL the old weilii threads if they REALLY want to get some inside information... also so they can see the many forms weilii like to take... can you believe they looked so different from 1 yard to the next?

By shear luck, I just aquired some Weilli today. I told a friend of mine about them on Saturday night, and showed him some pics off of this message board. He is a landscaper so I thought he might run across some. Damned if he hadn't already called me by 9:00 this morning, only 20 minutes after ariving at his first job site. He is one lucky SOB. Anyway, he found them in a nice residential neihborhood growing from bermuda sod. The area is always under sprinklers, so hopefully these things will just keep growing from the same spot over and over, who knows? He goes there every monday to do the landscaping, so hopefully monday will be a good day this fall.
They were found just north of I-285, south of where everyone else seems to find them, Fulton county actually. Anyway, there were about 30 of them yeilding about 200 grams wet. I guess I might actually have to get off my ass and look for them myself next time.
