Horned Melon growing tips?
    #19506846 - 02/01/14 04:00 PM (10 years, 1 month ago)

Does anyone have any idea if it's possible
to grow a horned melon vine (Cucumis metuliferus) in
a warm area of California?
Do I have to ferment the pulpy seeds first
before planting them? Just like tomatoes?
Any advice is appreciated

No need to ferment tomato seeds. You just wash off the clear pulp, dry and then sow. Do it in a bowl of water and use your fingers to clean the seeds individually, dry on paper towel of cloth. It's pretty easy.

I wouldn't be surprised if you'd do the same to these seeds before sowing.

I started mine, simply, under a humidity dome, indoors, but found that they suffered when they were put outdoors, to climb the patio.

Since they are very tender, when young, my advice is to provide partial shade and continual moisture, when it is newly planted.

A well established plant might just be semi-perennial, where hard freezes are rare.
