I've never tripped before, but my friend and i are planning one for this weekend, and i want to know if the Band Children of Bodom would be scary while on shrooms. It's very melodic, fast heavy metal with lots of solos and whatnot. The part we're worried about is the voice, the singer growls alot (not deeply) if you haven't heard them i can send you a song on AIM or soemthing...

It wouldnt be scary, but it would be unpleasant and you will be inhibiting your trip by listening to them. Go for it though, might give you dark vibe's, something to giggle about like amature's. Ive listened to music like that...but music can make or break a trip, when your experienced and you know just what a mystical headspace is like and where your going, you will find a more appropriate setting.

I find music like that to be silly. So for me, well Id just laugh a lot. If you want to be scared, listen to Pink Floyd's Ummagumma.

You kidding dude? Children of Bodom is THE FUCKING SHIT. I've listened to it on acid, shrooms, woodrose, weed, alcohol, and it never lets me down. While tripping i FUCKING LOVED IT. If you like it while sober, you're going to love it tripping.

Any metal is bad for a trip. I was at a friends house on mushrooms and he turned on yngvay malmstein (sp) and I started to think bad thoughts and that my head was going to explode. I screamed at him to turn it off but he wouldn't and it was BLASTING, so I got up and turned it off. He wasn't tripping, but had 3 tripping people at his place and he was our ride, so when I fucked with his music, he started to fuck with us. He turned the song back on.
From the beginning. He just sat there, staring at us all mad, listening to his music that we all couldn't stand. Now that same person wonders why nobody ever hangs out with him anymore (after event after event like the one described).

I find intricate metal like the dillinger escape plan to be quite awesome during a trip. everything comes alive. The pulse of the manic drumming gets into your mind and the world seems like a massive grinding smoking pulsating machine. The ground dances so fast... beautiful... I would say you have to have some liking towards metal in the first place though. My brother is an extreme metalhead and I'm exposed to a lot of it... I personally listen to more straight-forward rockin music 99% of the time but there can definitely be a lot of intensity to be brought into a trip by popping in some dillinger. I say if you like it anyways you will most likely love it during a trip, but then again you might hate it. You still have the option of taking the cd out of the cd player.. it's not like you're gonna be paralyzed by taking some shrooms. Just set a variety of cd's near the player and you're set.

They're really good but if ya listen to all their songs they kinda sound the same. I mean the don't but he uses the same style with a lil variation. DON'T GET ME WRONG I LOVE ALL THEIR SONGS, but ya know.
If you like Children of bodom, check out: Manowar - Power of Thy Sword - Ride the Dragon Awsome guitarist and drummer AND Singer.
If you really like a drummer who's like a machine then Dimmu Borgir - hybrid stygmata or something like that. crazy song

I listen to Dimmu. In fact I already have tickets for the Children of Bodom and Dimmu Borgir concert, here in Chicago at the House of Blues. I can't wait.
Thanks for the reccommendations, I'm always looking for new bands, I'll check those out, I've heard of Manowar. Is it melodic metal? thanks man.
Oh, and I know what you mean about their songs sounding the same with a little variation. That's why I also like Cradle of Filth, their songs don't sound the same at all, but that's another kind of music altogether. Dimmu's songs are sort of like Bodom's in this way as well.

I usually listen to metal when I'm tripping anyway. If you already like that kind of music, you're not going to find it scary. There have been times when I found it unpleasent, as in I just didn't feel like listening to something so heavy(think it was Nile) but never did I actually think it was scary. That's just me though, if its your first time, I'd play it safe with something mellow like Shpongle

As far as manowar, I wouldn't call them melodic but they're damn good.
