do all of these look like Pan Subbs? remeber i am in ohio, I think they all are, and i already had pictures ID'd, but i want to make sure that all the sets of pictures are the same mushroom. its just that some have the dark lines on the cap and some don't. i know these mushrooms do that when the sun hits them and they begin to dry. thanks....i guess i am just parinoid, but better that than dead. take it easy

i had them ID'd on the shroomery before, and it came out they were pan subbs, these are still growing in the same garden so should i be able to assume by looks, and gills, and visuals, that these are also subbs? I already ate a dose, a few weeks back and it was great...buti just wanna make sure cause my wife wants some tonight, and i care more about her than me i guess. just worried. thanks

then you eat 'em first before your wife. haha nah i'm just playing. I wouldn't assume that they are pan subbs until you have a definite ID. I mean, if you post a description and a print you'll most likely get your answer in a couple of hours if not less.

i did post a description and everything. there were ID'd, some just look differnt than others and i was wondering if i have to ID each individual mushroom.....i guess i am wondering if there could be any other pan that it could be that could hurt me. i know that these are pan subs, just wann make sure. i did look for the hollow stem in all of them, and the color of the gills, being the black and gray edges.

Yes, all the mushrooms in the pictures above are Panaeolus subbalteatus.

Try this sometime: Pick a mushroom cleanly from the base where the mycelium touches the very bottom of the stalk. Gently squeeze the white mycelium which covers the bottom of the stalk. You should see a very slight bluing over a period of a few moments.

Ive noticed bluing only in fresh, moist, healthy specimens. If they are overly dry, they wont blue.

the genus does not contain any toxic species now but that does not make it a good idea to eat them randomly.

the odds of you discovering a new species that happens to be toxic are very low but not impossible.

it is never a good idea to eat any unidentified mushroom.

Normaly the reddish brown coloration of the stem hides any bluing. Usually in haystacks there is light azure blue colorintg at the base of the stem where it is pulled apart fromt he straw/hay compost.

In Hawaii on Haleakala, up on the 3200 meter level of Kula highway, an old field, now Hawaiian land homes use to produce in manure really big Panbaeolus subbalteatus with silvery bluing int he stems of larger speciemsn. That is the only time in thirty years I have seen bluing occur on subbs.
