Successful Psilocybe serbica var bohemica fruits from Greece!
    #19261189 - 12/11/13 04:31 PM (10 years, 3 months ago)

So I was pretty sure these were either P allenni or P serbica. I have myc all around and a few things were not labled and I just forgot.

But i sent a specimen to Joust and he confirmed these are in fact P serbica var bohemica. A strain found from Greece .

This was a long process and took a few years.I did the usual wild spore print to woodchip water infused agar , cleaned up and into jars of sterilized rye grain. It wasnt a very good strain .I was very new to agar work. And things fizzled out .
BUUUUUUT....
I came up with an idea to bypass grain .
And I started the cardboard on agar thread.
http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/16855401/fpart/4/vc/1#16855401

So i pasturized cardboard.Had a lid on the small pot. Brought it in the SAB.
Squeezed the access water and put chunks on some plates of various species.

One was this species.

So it cover the cardboard and I put it in bags of chips and it took off. A year later I had some decent bags and pots. I inocced a ground spot that hasnt fruited yet and s few bonsai trees.

So these were the very first P serbica var bohemica fruiting for me , this has been a species that has always fascinated me.
You could tell from the get go that they were something special, very meaty and thick.
Enjoy!!!

Thanks Van. It was a long as process. But well worth the wait. Next year should be good for these. I am working on this variaty again too from Slovania and a possible different variety or new species. I dont know yet. But they are both looking killer so far.

I am playing with 2 new P serbica variations from Slovania right now and they both look most impresive!! Compared to how weak this strain was , these 2 are 100 times better! One of them is exhibiting some nice blueing on agar after my last transfer!!

Well I don't know where the spores came from but oh well it doesn't matter.

Do you notice psylo how the myc begins super fuzzy at first and then rhizos shoot out?  I'm not use to seeing it morph like that...

Ya those fast growing rhizos are what you want to transfer. I just did that with both the variations, so Im hoping to get to grain in like 2 weeks.

Inski let me know its not worth trying to get some perfect isolate with wild woodies, using up so many plates and taking so much time.
Get a decent clean one after a few transfers and get it ripping through a substrate. I followed his advice with P weraroa and it was the cats ass.
I plan to do this with all my new projects.

Advice taken, I was hoping to be more picky with the isolate because this is the only set of plates that I have going from spores.  The rest were just transfers.  But I'm less interested in spending time thinking I'm a scientist and more interested in getting this species out.  I'm glad I haven't wasted my time too much, I'm glad you said something!
