They just dont look right to me man.. They almost look like immature gilled mushroom pins. The shape is not right for puffballs in my experience... and the bisection. I dunno man wait for some more opinions before you eat any.

My understanding has been if the meat is PURE white it is edible. If it shows any form of yellow, purple, brown,or black it is not. Black actually being poisonous and the other colors just being old, sporulating and nasty with some tummy upset. I eat all the white ones and haven't had any problems.

Purple and black are poisonous, yellow and brown are too old to consume.

I've never seen a lycoperdon with that much stem, usually just a taper of the ball at the dirt end.
The cross section is interesting, no sign of vestigial gills or other shroom parts apparent...
OP - were there any older ones that looked like they were opening up like mushrooms do?
Definitely wait for a ti or two to chime in on some positive id.
Suchen commented on edible puffball colors, but didn't comment on what this might be...
-------------------- "Shrub, 30-90 cm. Leaves 2.5-) 4-9 cm, sessile or amplexicaul, broadly ovate to ovate-oblong, obtuse or rounded to subapiculate or subacute, when crushed not smelling of goats." "The initial quake was a 6.6 but fairly shallow. I felt it as a prolonged up and down vibration followed by a jolt forward and then to the left, like square dancing."

Yes, sorry they are Lycoperdon perlatum. The long stems are less common, but certainly within normal range of variance.
