Psilocybe coprophila is not an active species. i do not know of any deadly species that resemble P. coprophila that would share the same habitat but it is never entirely safe to assume there are none. it is always nessecary to identify your finds.
-------------------- Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it. If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.

Ive heard different,Ive found Psilocybe Coprophilla before(about 5 fresh specimens)and ingested them after the positive ID,and it wasnt really enough to tell any difference, but I have heard different,Im not trying to be an asshole towards concretefeet tho,he is a great guy but me and him have argued this one before,Ill try and find the sites where it says P.Coprophilla's are active and Ill try and post them here on this thread till I find them, but till' then,I would just say go out and try to find them and if they arent active,o well atleast you got some practice in,and if they are active then hey,you got yourself a FREE trip!Peaceout and happy hunting to all!

Psilocybe coprophila is not an active Psilocybe. Because of a mixed collection, mis-identification and possibly some contaminated lab equipment, one mycologist made the assumption based on his inaccurate findings, that Psilocybe coprophila was an active Psilocybe. Many other mushroom field guides have included this tid bit of inaccurate information without second guessing it. The error has since been corrected and this mushroom has been confirmed to be inactive, yet some sites and field guides still choose to include Psilocybe coprophila as an active mushroom in their guide, probably because in a non-psilo-loving mycologists mind, its better to err on the side of caution than to accidently trip out
I can assure you, as I have picked thousands of these mushrooms, and have tried ingesting them myself being a young stupid myco nut driven by inaccurate information, that Psilocybe coprophila is definitely, without any doubt at all, inactive.

Most guides say it is probably psychoactive becasuse of its relationship tho the psychoactive psuilocybes.
AS LK and other s have stated it is not a psilocybian mushroom.

amanitaman:
anybody can find sites claiming that P. coprophial are active but what really counts are credible assay reports. an assay is a prosses of determining chemical composition and they are never wrong if done properly and properly controlled.
i have never seen an assay report that found any of the psilocybian compounds in this species. i have seen citations of several that found no psilocybian coumounds in them at all.
it would be nice if they where active [it took a lot of convincing about it before i accepted it myself because i wanted to believe] but they are not active at all.
you don't have to worry about disagreeing with me [unless you where to be outwardly disrespectful] on an issue, i'm a pretty agreeable person.

P. coprphila, although it is common around the world is still rare int he field and never very many and always very small. However, I have seen massive collections at riding stables int he hay/straw/wood-shaving compost heaps but in small colonies only.
