Birthing Questions
    #1882505 - 09/04/03 07:09 PM (20 years, 6 months ago)

A friend of mine just birthed 6 1/2 pints, 1 of which was growing pins (went right through the top layer of verm actually) and the rest sort of growing pins. He birthed them all anyway, rolling in verm first, misting with H202 + H20, putting in their lids with verm in it, and sprinkling verm on top. One jar had some yellow contam, so he cut it off with a sanatized knife and it's now dunking in 200:1 bleach water.

In any case, the questions I have are -

1. Since he didn't wait for most cakes to pin, will they be fine in the fruiting chamber, or should they be dunked, or what?

2. He birthed all the cakes upside-down, as per the PF tek, except for one. It had pins growing on top, through the verm layer, so he just carefully took it out of the jar and set it on top of the lid with verm after rolling it in verm. Will this be fine, or should he have smooshed those poor little pins?

Sorry if these questions have been addressed before, I'm on 56k for a bit and searching takes FOREVER

1. If they're fully colonized, then the fruiting chamber they belong.

2. I would think that it would be fine (it's just one cake) as long as there is light to show them where to grow, then nature will take its course.

I would keep that one cake that contamed seperated from the rest of the good batch for good measure.
