Stupid newbie questions

I've been lurking and reading as much as possible before I decided to ask some questions, so I apologize if any of these questions have been asked (which I'm sure they have).
What's a pod? There's a lot of lingo around here that is difficult to find definitions to. How is this different from a terrarium?
Why do people choose the opaque rubbermaid containers for incubation? I picked up some translucent containers yesterday so I can double them as fruiting chambers after incubation is complete. Just curious whether I needed to get some opaque ones now.
What do you guys recommend for digital thermometers and humidity meters?
I looked at fishtank heaters yesterday. Are there some that have a temperature control on them?

"What's a pod"
A pod is something someone can use to grow mushrooms. Its just a type of container in most cases. A pod Is a terrainum.
"Why do people choose the opaque rubbermaid containers for incubation?"
Light tells the Mycelium to start pinning...along with some other factors. I would suggest getting opaque containers.
"What do you guys recommend for digital thermometers and humidity meters?"
Most cigar shops carry a small temp/rh reader. But i would go for gusto if i were u. Spend the extra couple bucks at home depot or any hydroponic shop to get a nice one. Cant think of any name brands.
"I looked at fishtank heaters yesterday. Are there some that have a temperature control on them?"
Most every Heater has a temp control on it. get a Nice heater. u will be using it quiet a bit!
Hope I could Help!

A "pod" usually has an automated setup for humidity, air exchange, etc.

You want a fully submersible fish tank heater. Yes, you want to be able to controll the temperature.
It is interesting to note that you don't really need an incubator at all. They colonize just fine in the mid 70's, a little slower than at 86'F but not that much.

I was looking at walmart and lowes just today, looking for optimal rubbermaid-like containers, and I had read somewhere they need to be at least 6-8 inches deep. How deep of a container would be best, and how airtight do the lids need to be? I saw some nice looking clear ones at walmart, with a pretty airtight lid, but they were only about 5 inches deep, and then after that they seem to go much deeper. I guess what i'm asking is, if I want something fairly low key and small, how small can I go without drastically affecting production? Or, maybe there is a particular strain, that don't grow very tall. I also forgot, there were some non clear ones that seemed just about perfect for me at lowes, and I was wondering how I could alter or makeshift a lid to work as a fruiting chamber. I saw in one of the teks with pictures, someone customized their lid to allow light.
