You might as well try casing if nothing is happening. First try PF's double-ended tek and see where that gets you..if that doesnt work then post again. heres the addy: www.fanaticus.com/casing.htm
wait about 2 weeks before giving up on THAT type of casing. Its the easiest kind of casing you can do..but presterilize your vermiculite at 350 degrees for 15 minutes in an oven.--It cools down to room temp in about a minute..bake it on tin foil cuz it cools about the same speed. Good luck!

For my latest 3 cakes, all of them were pinning and growing VERY poorly. But one cake was accidentally in contact with a small pool of water in the perlite... then this cake starting growing nice fat guys!

My conclusion is that all the cakes were dehydrated from birth and thus had trouble growing. If a cake is sucking, I'd recommend cleaning off any pins, then flip the cake over (with verm on the bottom) and moisten the top for a couple days to re-hydrate it. This is the "double-ended casing tek". Works very well. Also keep the temp at least 75 F... I have been at a chilly 68-70F lately and the growth is very sloooooow.

Thanks for the advice... I'm gonna wait a few days and then try the double-ended casing technique... which basically is just adding a thin layer of damp vermiculite over the mycelium right?

If that doesnt work I'll be back... if I don't just get fed up and eat the cakes first
