What's this? Is it the absinthe plant?

It looks more like an Artemisia vulgaris. The real Artemisia absinthum is much "greyer" and the leaves are more tomentose. Do a Google picture search and you will know what I mean....

Thujon is also located in other plants! Salvia officinalis and Tanacetum vulgare are also good sources of Thujone. But why you don´t go to the Drugstore and buy some essential oil of Artemisia absinthum? It´s quite cheap....

Anyway, be careful during experiments with Thujone! It´s said that it has some neurotoxicity...

MND

p.s.: Of course, most of all Artemisia species contains Thujone ;-)

Mugwort (A.vulgaris) gives the best effect out of all this family of plants for me. Smooth smoke, goes well with other herbs and is fluffy when chopped. Effects include relaxation and lucid dreaming.

Is A. vulgaris that active? I ask, because here the herb is a very common spice for roast fowl! It is said, that you can digest the fat much better.

I find mugwort mild but very calming. I haven't found anything more powerful for aiding meditation. It just lets me focus on the present and lifts the atmosphere in the room. I usually just burn it with sage (Salvia officinalis), I don't smoke it unless I want full on dreams.

Is it in something like a bowl or a stick?

Yeah, smudging stick. just semi dry the herbs then wrap them up with some hemp string and let them finish drying.

Everyone that I give the smudging sticks to even people who are not into herbs or meditation etc comments on how pleasant they are and are very good at clearing a house of that negative atmosphere you can sometimes feel in certain houses or rooms. Good for when moving into a rental property. I have been thinking about adding Fomes fomentarius (Tinder fungus) or  Inonotus sp. as they could add something of their own to the smoke.

Anyone know why the smoke from smudging sticks or incense don't set off smoke alarms?? Must be low carbon smoke or whatever element the smoke detector senses.
