Temp for fruiting and jar storage question
    #1839708 - 08/22/03 05:56 AM (20 years, 7 months ago)

Abdul called again, he said that he has a cheap roommate that doesn't like to have the AC on above 75, so the house temps are around a little less than80. What can Abdul do to lower the temp?? Another question he asked. He said he had wanted to store a few jars that are already colonized, how long will they stay good for in the fridge? Is there any preparation neccessary, or can he just stick the jars into the fridge and they'll stay good for a month or two, right? Abdul says thank you in advance.

your temp is fine for colonising and for fruiting.
in the fridge as they are (maybe in a loose plastic bag) they'll be ok for months.

Thanks for your help! Also, Abdul told me he bartered with someone and was able to swap a couple of donkey's for this digital therm/humidity gaudge. He stuck it in the growing chamber and the RH was showing at 41, maybe the sensor on it is on the very top?? WHat is the best way of checking humidity of a grow chamber? Thanks again.

bear in mind that those gauges are all pretty shoddy (unless you pay over $300 or so). still, thay can be pretty useful so long as you don't get too hung up on what they say. that or by looking at the condensation on the chamber walls, which takes practise.

you're talking about the fruiting chamber, the terrarium, right? (don't worry about humidity for the jar stage). what are you using for humidification? i recommend perlite.

Abdul is using perlite. you made a good point with the gauge thing. Good info, thanks a lot. Yes, I mean terrarium. Also, ? on that. Abdul is simply using a rubbermaid container with a hepa filter slapped on. Soaked perlite on the bottom, which I hear isn't neccessary if you dunked, or am I mistaken? Thanks again.

it's all good. cakes benefit from a dunk AND wet perlite.
