Just pasteurized, moisture questions.
    #1827037 - 08/18/03 03:58 PM (20 years, 7 months ago)

I just pasteurized my compost (cow bedding poo/straw) and to the looks of it, its pretty wet. now the question is, how is this supposed to look?

I pasteurized it for 1.5 hours at 165F, then i drained and let it cool for 30 minutes.

Could this be too wet? how would i go about draining more?

Thanks!

i did the exact same thing today myself.

it depends on how much poo was in there. if it's largely straw, it's drained in an hour or two, and you can 'fluff it up' through the pillowcase and let it cool. if i take a handful of mine and squeeze, a few drops run down my wrist. if it was more poo, though, you can wring away at the pillowcase and still it drips; this can take 8 hours or more before it's ready to fluff.

so long as it's not all lumped together and your spawn is in small pieces, you should do okay. experience is the only teacher with poo.
