ok but the article mentions nothing about alcohol. He was bitten by a spider a few years ago and likely suffered from liver failure as a result. Look up  necrotizing fasciitis.  Pub-material not SNS.

Sucks though Hanneman was a bad ass.

If you looked up NF, you would have noticed that alcoholics and drug addicts are especially prone to it.

Also, it's unclear if the NF that he contracted in 2011 is actually the cause of his death, although it is possible.

Yeah, I feel a little bad-- last night my gf told me the guitarist for slayer died, and I said, "WTF-- Kerry King!?!?"

Not the hugest slayer fan, myself, but they did put out some good stuff over the years. I think I like their earlier stuff less. It seems a bit more chaotic and less melodic. Maybe I got a bad sample of their music, though.

On the other hand, I completely loved Seasons in the Abyss which is a fantastic album the whole way through, and Diabolus In Musica had some really mind-blowing tracks on it.

I went to the link at the top of the page, and when I got down to the comment section, I saw someone had written this:

Quote:

The Afterlife House Band:

Ronnie James Dio - Lead vocals

Jeff Hanneman - Guitar

Randy Rhoads - Guitar

Mike Starr - Bass

Gar Samuelson - Drums

Which was sort of cute and amusing. But I sort of disagree with the picks.

Dimebag? Where the fuck is Dimebag?

Cliff Burton (early Metallica) was a pretty decent bass player....

And if you're talking about dead musicians, you'd almost be retarded to not bring up Hendrix. Maybe not quite the same style as the others on that list.... but still one of the more innovative players to ever become super-famous then die.

How about adding a second vocalist? I want to hear Freddy Mercury sing metal.

Anyway, I digress. RIP Jeff.

Stain of Mind (One of my favorite Slayer tracks-- off Diabolus In Musica)

Seasons In  the Abyss (Song, from same album)

There will never be a great Slayer album again, people always pay attention to Kerry King, but Jeff Hanneman was the true heart and soul of Slayer, Kerry King was his lieutenant with a gattling gun guitar that shot glowing hot razors and razed the audience down. I've heard Slayer's performance referred to as an "attack", not even playing louder than other bands, but driving the audience way crazier with such a precise onslaught.

It really, really sucks to refer to this band in the past tense...but I don't see how Slayer can continue without Hanneman. Angel of Death, Raining Blood, South of Heaven, etc. were all Hanneman's creations. King was the lieutenant, and he does a damn good job, but Hanneman was the general.

Almost every song they performed live was a Jeff song. Everyone well known good slayer song was a Jeff song, so yes, Slayed died with Jeff. And with Dave Lombardo gone as well there is no hope

I legitimately almost cried at this news. I felt ashamed how much I have neglected my love for Slayer these past few years. Rest in peace buddy. Thanks for the decades of wonderful music you inspired.

Also, Kerry King is a dick. He threw Lombardo out because apparently the band has been getting nickels from the tour money and Kerry told the drummer to hit the bricks.

this was my thought when i heard the news about jeff hanneman:

"WHY COULDN'T KERRY KING HAVE DIED INSTEAD?"

honestly, kerry king is by far the less talented guitarist of the two. not that i'm a stickler for technical ability, but there's also the fact that hanneman wrote a vast majority of the band's songs, during their prime years at least. for example, on reign in blood kerry king is credited with writing "piece by piece" but every other song i believe is credited to hanneman.

so kerry king doesn't write nearly as many songs, is clearly the less talented guitarist, and yet since he's the most instantly recognizable member of slayer he thinks being the mascot is the same as being the band leader, and KICKS OUT dave lombardo who is among the best metal drummers of all time. lombardo was always slayer's secret weapon, his intense ass drumming is one of the main things that set them apart from the rest of the thrash metal pack around the time that they came out with haunting the chapel & hell awaits. with hanneman dead and lombardo kicked out, slayer is missing their two best members. tom araya is cool and all, and his vocals are an important part of the band, but he and king dickhead can't carry the band alone, and i'm hoping they won't try.

reign in pain jeff hanneman, and rest in peace slayer. ending this post with some full album uploads of their best material (in my opinion) in memoriam:

haunting the chapel EP (1984)

hell awaits (1985)

honorable mentions to reign in blood and show no mercy!
