collecting spores/tissue culture from the veil?
    #1810883 - 08/13/03 06:53 PM (20 years, 8 months ago)

a friend's mycologist colleague harvested some mushrooms one day...she noticed that there was a large piece of veil hanging from one of the stems that was practically covered in spores...if she carefully picked off the veil with sterilized tweezers or forceps could she then place it on an petri dish with agar or in a jar of honey water and get a mycelium culture out of it?

Of course, but the sterility of the process could be hindered by the fact of introducing a  unknown air born contaminents if it is received onto the sterile scapel in unsterile conditions therefore making grilled cheese  sandwhiches    yummm oh and those little circle premade peanut butter and jelly sandwhiches yummmmmmm brb

Depend if it is contamed. When using agar its best to make sure to get a tissue from the inside of the mushroom becasue it is a "virgin" piece of tisse in the fact that it hasnt even touched air yet. Other than that I dont see why not. Agar yes, Honey no becasue I would use Karo syrup. Much more effective that Honey. Good Luck!
