Verticillium or other?
    #18094036 - 04/11/13 07:58 PM (11 years, 7 days ago)

So after sifting through the contamination page, I think I have a Verticillium infection on these Golden Teachers. What do you guys think? I noticed early on most of my pins were cracking and I assumed it was just from not enough perlite (only had ~2-3 inches in these first pics) In fact, I felt I was overwatering. They seemed soupy..?

On the cake (pre-harvest)

But.... things just seemed a little off from then on.... They don't look right to me.
Post-Harvest...

OH... Here's one of those weird lookin bastards now....

Info: I fan as much as possible throughout the day. Mist 3-5 times a day. Started out with two shitty FCs and after about 2 weeks moved into the properly constructed SGFC . Then had the perlite issue (2-3in worth, but misted more). For last week have ~5in of perlite. Proper mist/fan schedule. Ceiling fan on low in room. 12/12ish light with 6500k spectrum near window. Temps 66-75 degrees. They took off, but hard awkward discolorations as shown.

Any info is appreciated.

Were the caps slimy? If so it was probably bacteria.

no more slimy than the rest of the pins or other undeveloped mushrooms on other cakes.

The caps looks fine except for the last one. Try misting less. Water build up on caps can support contams.

That's how all the pins looked before they grew more into what I harvested.
They just didn't look like any Golden Teachers I've seen before, I was a bit worried about ingestion.

You're defiantly over misting- or misting directly onto the fruits when you mist. The caps are wet- they should not be dripping with water. MIst the walls of you chamber and far enough above the cakes that it falls as mist.

Other than that everything looks good:thumbup: I think the cracking of the caps is from excessive growth or a genetic characteristic. I have pins do the EXACT same thing. Same "X" looking crack directly on the pinhead. You will notice as the fruit matures the white inside material of the "x" will turn brown and slowly heal. It's absolutely amazing. Most of them almost completely heal the "x" and the crack disappears.

I'm not sure what the fuck causes that to happen but it's cool as hell.
