When to pick mushrooms?
    #1805116 - 08/12/03 10:12 AM (20 years, 8 months ago)

I know your sapost to pick them either right before the veil breaks or right after the viel breaks, but what if your casing has different levels of maturity growing?

Do you simply pick the ones that are ready and leave the rest to grow, and I know this is why timing the flushes is cruicial.

There appear to be several gospels concerning this question. Some people prefer to pick only the shrooms of which the veil has just broken, others proceed and pick a whole flush. So what's wisdom?
I'd say, go for an entire flush in one time. This way, you deminish chances of contamination because you 'violate' the casing/cake only once. Leave tiny shrooms and pins to develop for the next flush.

if only some of the mushrooms are ready then you just pick the ones that are ready and pick the rest once they have caught up. I always harvest right after the veil breaks and sometimes the harvesting process is spread out over a day or a few days depending on the size of the casing and how uneven of a flush occured.

yeah most people do but there is some people that pick them all at the same too so it's all what you waht to do.I would pick as they mature so you get more flesh for each mushrooms(veils break). If you want a take a print I would wait till the cap opens before taking a print.

regarding getting an even flush..... [Re: Psilocybin_monkey]

So, an even flush occurs if you deep scratch, and what else?

I'm thinking about deep scratching when i begin to see say..... 30-40% of growth through the casing layer.

do u simply scrape that shit with a fork acorss it or is there any special thing to do with the fork???

You don't have to scrath. If you get a really even substrate/casing layer you don't usually have to scratch. Patch casing is alot better than scratching because it is a non harmful process.
