pinning
    #1803364 - 08/11/03 08:42 PM (20 years, 7 months ago)

Is it cool if I let my jars pin out in the open (on top of my dresser) or should I still be worried about dust and contams in the air?

I'm not talking about taking the lids off of course, but should I keep them under a clear enclosure or something under indirect sunlight while the first pins start to form in the jar?

You can't fruit a cake "on your dresser" you would need to keep the humidity very high, around 95-00% optimally for pinning. You need a terrarium, I generally wouldn't worry about contams when cakes are open though.

if youre thinking that you can just let your cakes sit on your dresser in the jars till they pin, it wont happen. they need a reduction in temperature, 90-100% humidity, and fresh air 3x an hour.

I'm just wanting to see some pins before I birth. I don't want to actually fruit on my dresser. I know that you need a temp. drop and indirect sunlight to initiate pinning, but my house is kinda dusty and I was wondering about contams getting into the jars somehow (through the holes) when I take them out of the incubator.

if yer not growing invitro then you don't need to wait for pins before you birth...just dunk, cold shock and birth them into a terrarium...they'll pin from there....

You can let the jar sit out on your dresser and pin, zippoz is incorrect (sorry not trying to be a jerk). I have done that on many an occasion... usuall6y there are all the conditions needed in the jars or invitro. Go check out hippies TEK!
